The people from Code Pink (for Peace) have been meeting at Balboa Park every other Sunday at noon, at the corner of 6th & Laurel for the past few months. We usually gather under a big shady tree, and chat, and then whoever wants to, marches through the park with a clothesline full of pink ladies' slips "Pink slips for Bush!"
Last time the Code Pinkers were out (I was not there)
a couple of weeks ago, there were a few people who called themselves the "Protest Warriors" who tried to antagonize the women and instigate arguments. These PWs passed out a flyer that said something to the effect of "You don't come to the park to listen to a bunch of women prattle on about politics." Pretty condescending to women. They also kept snapping photos of the women (which was pretty unsettling).

Over the last couple of days, Roger Hedgecock has been using his
radio show to convince more of these so-called Protest Warriors to show up this Sunday to protest the peace activists. Can you imagine? Protesting peace and love? Arguing for war and hate?
One thing is for sure: If these guys are charging out to protest a bunch of pink-clad women, you know Code Pink for Peace is having an effect!
Calling all peace activists (men, women, children, everyone is always welcome at Code Pink events) to join us this Sunday and march in solidarity for peace. Come join us at 12:00 noon at the corner of 6th & Laurel.

Theres a difference between political debate and instigating arguements.
Im sure you would rather be out protesting just one side of every arguement brainwashing the onlookers...but thats just not the way it is anymore. Protestwarriors are going to be everywhere, always offering the OTHER PERSPECTIVE.
Right or wrong (although pw is always right) PEOPLE ARE FINALLY GOING TO BE PRESENTED WITH ALL SIDES OF THE STORY.

Radical muckracking radio host Roger Hedgecock in San Diego is inspiring a new "BROWN SHIRT" movement to become enemy combatants against free speech and First Amendment Rights. His instigation of goon squads to intimidate little women in pink in their peaceful meetings in Balboa Park is their modus operendi: Shut down the voices of reason and peace, not by organizing their own forums, but by attacking the forum of others.

I like the comment that they ought to make a sign saying Kerry is a girly man who should be wearing pink. Cause, ya know... everyone who thinks Bush is an ass clown thinks John Kerry is the saving grace of the world. NEWSFLASH: They're both a bunch of dolts. I was at the rally on 8/8/04 and it was wonderful to see how many people in Balboa Park supported our efforts. I've attended ralies since before the invasion of Iraq, and I can tell that the tide is turning against the war. Any person capable of thinking clearly wants peace, and recognizes that Bush LIED.

I somewhat understand your concern for peace. However, the sign of the protest warriors has some validity. Although, many of these things exist, when they were removed from countries, it was by WAR. As an "oreo" I believe the Civil War was one of the greatest efforts and displays of bravery. Fighting to free African Americans is beautiful.

i dig the person who brought up the civil war. thats great. the best part about that was they werent fighting to end slavery, they were fighting to keep the states from leaving, aka they were going to invade them and occupy them. Why do you think there were draft riots, mainly because people didnt give a shit. Ending slavery was just something they tagged onto it, a by product that seems so great, but not what it was really about, not at all.

their tactics (of surprise). i hope to see more peace sites that give warning of these cloaked hate-mongers.

Again, I have to wonder how a bunch of "pink-o's" shouting only one side of every story is fair. To me, it sounds kind of biased. I mean, isn't it enough that you have MSNBC, CNN, and every other newstation (besides foxnews) on your side? But to be out on the streets begging too???

These "Peace Protest" like the ones in the 60's can get the US to withdraw from Iraq. I only hope it does not create the next Pol Pot. The power vacuum left in Vietnam when we left cost 6,600,000 Combodians their lives.

is disingenuous. Before the Civil War, everyone in the U.S. supported slavery by participating in the market economy. Does this mean that no one should have worked for abolition?
Of course not. During the latter 1930's, all Germans supported Nazism by existing. Does this mean no Germans should have resisted Nazism?
The same holds true for resisting market supremacy and war.
