The location of the pirate radio station 106.9FM in San Diego, California was visited for the third time by members of the FCC, Wednesday, the 10th of November. Agents entered the property, claiming that they did not need a warrant, to inspect the equipment. Subsequently, they issued a verbal order that the signal be shut down immediately, or the broadcasters would be issued a ten thousand dollar fine. Though it is not the policy of the station to honor the "authority" of the FCC, an un-knowing individual allowed the agents into the location. The station does not plan on further cooperation with the FCC and resumed broadcasting immediately.

FCC CONTINUES ITS ATTACK ON COMMUNITY RADIO IN SAN DIEGO

"The FCC is continuing its campaign of intimidation and fear against people simply trying to exercise their first amendment right to free speech", said a member of 106.9FM who wishes to remain anonymous.

The FCC has said that 106.9FM is not interfering with any other radio stations and that there have been no complaints from the community. The FCC has also said that there are no frequencies available on the FM dial for licensing in San Diego.

In 2003, Senator Diane Feinstein began a senate inquiry into the questionable legal practice of the FCC demanding entrance to homes without a warrant.

For more information on the station and the history of the FCC and pirate radio, please visit the station's website at www.1069fm.org.

Please Don't Feed the Trolls

Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: "either a person who sends messages on the Internet hoping to entice other users into angry or fruitless responses, or a message sent by such a person." San Diego IMC strives to provide both a grassroots media resource as well as a forum for people to contribute to a meaningful discussion about local issues. Please, when posting comments, be respectful of others and ignore those trying to interrupt or discourage meaningful discourse. Thank you.

grrrr....censorship

16.11.2004 13:35

Every time i heard the words "FCC" and "shutdown", I get really angry. Openly crushing free speech and controlling the media. This calls for immediate media action.
I say everyone who has the equipment should start brodcasting pirate signals and messages. Those who do not, let's take our media back! Liberate billboards, put up posters, hang freeway signs (www.freewayblogger.com), participate in street theater and town crier actions, and whatever else can un-censor San Diego!

Subverse, Refuse, Resist!

FCC can go straight to hell

16.11.2004 15:12
Stop us now, we're all going to be broadcasters
Stop us now, we're all going to be broadcasters

FCC can go straight to hell, do not pass GO, do not collect $200, just take your rightful place on the lap of Satan.

The FCC should be called by it's rightful name, Fascist Corporate Coddlers.

Resist Amigos, RESIST!! More of us should start broadcasting let 'em come round us all up. For those of who don't know the history of radio in the US, people all over the country had transmitters in their backyards. Back to Future, or is that the Future is Backwards? Wait til we get low power TV transmissions going, won't that keep them hopping.

say hi to bill zears for me

Did you meet Bill Zears? He's the older looking dude; kinda pastey looking. Glimmering gems of humanity, let me tell you. And so the evidence collection process goes. It sucks that this crap happens, but we all gotta know (including listeners) that it's not like the FCC is going to sit around and knit sweaters while we operate rigs that to their eyes are illegal. The only thing we have control over is if and how we go on the air, how we deal with their evidence collection process, how we respond to injunctions / search warrants, and what we can do outside of those bounds to think in the "bigger picture".

Spare equipment, spare equipment, and spare equipment. Buy cheap shit, so when they jack it you can just move back in the next day. Make their enforcement model ineffective.
