A San Diego activist was arrested Thursday evening at approx 8PM during the Reclaim the Streets action on the bogus charge of 'delaying an officer.' The incident occurred at the cop motorcycle block which the marchers breached at 4th and Market after reversing on 4th at Island and returning to Market. The activist was taking photographs and witnessed a cop tripping. Then the activist was lifted off the ground by a cop in a choke hold. The written report made the proposterous claim that the activist punched the officer, causing him to trip.

She is asking for video or photographic evidence or witnesses to the incident. Please post to sdimc and write to  queer-j-brad@riseup.net.

thursday arrest footage

21.01.2005 02:31

i have some footage of 3 arrests, but i don't think the girl in question. i do have about 8 seconds of a 5'5 latina being taken from that corner. she was being (wo)man-handled roughly. don't have the initial encounter, just her being dragged (painfully) off. willing to share for the cause, no problem.

at about 6:30 Anthony Cordovas?? was arrested. he said he was with a Barbara and a Nadia or Nahlia/etc. He looked under age and a gallon of (mostly drunk) vodka was taken out of his bag. i've got most of his arrest on tape, but not the initial part. I did interview and get contact info from a witness, AND A LOCAL PUBLIC DEFENDER who wants to be contacted in the morning to help us get info on his case. contact me if you know him or have other interest.

unable to track down anthony

We are unable to find Anthony Cordovas in central jail. If he's a minor, there's no way for us to get information about him from Juvenile Hall, we tried. Only people who are related to a minor can get information about him. The number for Juvenile Hall is 858-694-4500. If he's not a minor, we may be able to find out his status if we can get a correct spelling for his name. You can call us with updates at 858-204-8207.

arresting of journalists

21.01.2005 08:09

The most glaring example of the illegitimacy of these claims against this woman is that she was reporting for San Diego Indymedia and radioActive sanDiego at the time of her arrest. She's a journalist.

Bailed! What other responses?

21.01.2005 13:12

I've just heard that the bail money has been raised to get radioactive's reporter out of the pokey. Representation and court costs will probably need to be covered later on.

Can anyone tell us the name of the reporter, the status of Anthony C., and what other responses are being made to these arrests?

A guest on Tom Fudge's (KPBS) morning show yesterday said that San Diego police are not known for spraying down demonstrations with "chemical weapons" (pepper spray, etc.) The unnecessary use of physical force (choke hold) needs to be highlighted and denounced.

i witnessed some of it

22.01.2005 17:02

i saw some of this event. yes, i remember some shoving and quick movement around the area, but i couldn't see much past the other people standing between myself and the woman arrested. i shouted: "get out your cameras!" because i had a feeling the police were feeling snatchy. i distinctly saw a police officer fall and then get up with an angry look on his face and grab a woman. a few seconds later i recognized the woman as someone i know.
