during the weekend of april 16th, 2005, three journalists - representing san diego indymedia, radioactive radio and resistencial estudiantil - traveled to the sister cities of douglas, az and agua prieta, mx hoping to explore more closely the relationship of the minutemen project and the local border community.

This is some great photo journalism, there's a lot of tension in Arizona right now around the border/minute man/racism aimed at latin@s. We're continuing to struggle against this latest spike in anti-immigrant actions and sentiment, thanks for doing your bit to shine some light on this messed up situation.

undocumented workers contribute to the US economy without getting any services or benefits back. When you do not have a valid SSN, you can't claim worker's comp, unemployment benefits, social security, medicare, etc. Nevertheless, they do pay those taxes to support the rest of us. They are subsidizing our economy. Even if they get paid under the table, they still pay sales taxes by consuming good and services.
The main problem is that we are draining Mexico of working people. Several states are now facing a demographic crisis for entire towns have been abandoned (think Jalisco, Michoacan, Puebla). The most valuable "asset" for a country is its human element, and Mexico is losing it to the US, because of policies enacted by US and international elites with the complicity of Mexico City that force people to risk their lives.
They are taking our jobs? Really? There was a NAFTA provision that went into effect in the very first day of the treaty enabling "professionals" to work in the three North American Countries. The result? American law firms swarmed Mexico City and set up shop in January 1994. We are taking their jobs.

Great job! Every little helps. The most evil part about all of this is that regular Americans are just to busy and self-center to standup for human rights. We go claming and preaching to other countries of the world our “God and family values ”. When right here in our backyard we are hunting human beings. This dehumanizing of America and our good principles is truly a shame. And by not doing anything we are encouraging these kinds of groups to do their worst and disgrace our great Nation.

I want to say that i support immigration. This country was built on the backs of immigrants and I would also like to inform any one who doesn't knwow that illegal immigrants do not recieve any type of economical support.In fact they are robbed blind by this country.Illegal immigrants pay taxes and do not recieve income tax returns.I know what i am talking about because my husband is illegal and he pays taxes every year.Illegal men and women do not recieve welfare.The goverment says that they are ineligeble for these types of services.I live in Sandiego and i see the struggles and hardwork the illegal people go through on a daily bases.What gives someone the right to stop a man from working and providing food an shelter for their family.They do not stand on corners and ask for change.I see American men with the ability to work. Please, you have to at least try to not be manipulated by the Establishment, once in a while.
The Establishment is pushing the view that MinuteMan is about racism because they want cheap workers to come to the USA and drive down wages.
It's that simple.
Every country (even Cuba, by the way) must guard against an unwanted influx of migrants, because they impact the local population economically in a negative way.

The argument that Mexicans should be allowed to come to the USA because they are "hard workers" (which is untrue) is an intentional distraction.
It is an argument of the form "ignoratio elenchi" in which the real issue is obscured by making an unrelated, unimportant distracting claim
in the hope that lazy thinkers will embrace it.
The issues are
(A) Mexicans take jobs of Americans, which if foreignors did not
take them would pay enough for whites, blacks, asians, and
native hispanics to survive on.
(B) Mexicans serve business owners who want to drive down wages
at any cost.
(C) Mexicans are usually poor and often illiterate and therefore
they are a burden because they are low-quality workers
(D) Mexicans often are disrespectful toward Americans, much moreso
than other foreignors.
(E) Mexican peasants import poverty which leads to more crime
and causes a burden on the state.
(F) Mexicans increase overpopulation, as does their high birth rate,
which leads to more poverty and crime.
(G) illegals pay no taxes
(H) Mexicans are overly religious and have views in line with
the US religious right which are offensive to secular America.
(I) Mexico should solve its own economic problems rather than
export the poor.
(J) If Mexican peasants were not so weak willed, they would take a
stand against their corrupt government as some in Chiapas have.
(K) Mexicans have no right to come to the USA, and Mexico's
controlling it for 30 years does not give them any right.
(L) Talk about a mythical land of Aztlan smacks of Nazism and
the view that Mexicans deserve to take over the Southwest
is clearly the same idea as the Nazi's "lebensraum".

The US - freedom to choose - support whichever law breakers that you like that week. I prefer bank robbers - they are just trying to make a living. And they're already in the US. We should support our own lawbreakers before we support those from other countries.

I've been involved in the border issue for five years now, from late nights along the San Pedro in the dirt and dark to researching, writing and speaking to groups on the issue.
I have nothing but empathy for those poor souls in that desert and contempt for the Mexican Government. SHAME ON ANY COUNTRY THAT FORCES ITS PEOPLE TO BE SO DESPERATE AS TO TRY THE LONG MILES OF THE UNFORGIVING DESERT!
This is nothing short of the new slavery of the 21st Century. Mexico profits as do the corporate elite in the U.S.
As to those who argue, "we need them to keep our economy working" I add that this is the EXACT arguement made by the Southern States in defence of slavery over 140 years ago. Period.

Im impressed by this issue in which your journalist covered, for it getting almost to the core of what is happening in douglas. I was born and raised in douglas for 18 yrs. before I joined and retired from the military. I now live in San Diego, but I go and come from douglas about three times a year. and what Ive seen during these times is allot of immigrants comming across the border in hordes, not no longer in two or three at a time, but I say patoons all marching in step. I have personnally witness this and have laughed at the situation, but in reality these times are during the times of national guards presence and increase border patrol. Im a Mexican descent American Citizen who have served this country for 20yrs, and Yes I believe that allot of Mexican's should have the right to come into these country for they are truely the Native Americans of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, etc for these lands were taken from Mexico by force after they refused to sell the Land. But that not being my issue, My issue is on job performanc, if the Border Patrol can't do the Job, and the Army National Guard cant do the Job, why can't a couple of racist come in, to influence characteric's on how to perform a given job. PS. Darn your JO's are comming close as to what is going on in Douglas, The Border patrol Golfing and The Politics in City Hall etc, etc your right it's bigger than meets the eye!!

I think I'll just pack up and pop over to Australia.......move onto a sheep ranch, without my Government nor the Australian Governments 'OK' and just get off that plane ride (not paid for of course) after all, 'I just deserve to be able to live on someone elses land', do their chores, raise their kids to my liking and Jolly 'ol St Nick can go suck his bloody thumb.
Thats what I want to do because in my country people ARE TAKING MY JOBS! I DO WANT TO WORK and speak bloody 'American' all day long, with more Happy Times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not grumbling times!
and PS..........i'm getting a neck acke bending my ear all the time to bloody straining to listen to a foreign tongue kicking the heck out of my Language!
My grand parents came thru Ellis Island, worked hard, saved monie, didn't drink nor do drugs and we grew from there. Why the heck do others think they should not have to do the same.
Work on your own country - fight for your own freedom! Kick the bad guys out of your government, turn your back on drugs! Fill your soul with the Word of God, then! you will become a free Christian Nation on your very own merrits.
