...and the folks there, who've been there all week, told me the following things:
- a local rancher came by and told them that the community of Campo got together for a meeting and decided to go to the VFW and offer to repay them for the $500 that the MinuteMen paid if they agree to tell the MinuteMen to go home. Someone at the VFW said that it was the worst mistake of their lives to have the MinuteMen stay there.
- The police also said they're working on a way to get rid of the MinuteMen, because they keep calling in false alarms. For example, the other night they called 911 and had an ambulance, a fire truck and a helicopter come out to rescue a woman who wasn't sick at all, as an excuse to get rid of the demonstrators who were there.
- Last night they only saw 6 cars of MinuteMen. They included a big camoflague SUV with two young people in it, both in full camoflague army fatigues.
- Confrontations have continued with the MinuteMen every night.
- Demonstrators have taken to going to the Mexican side of the fence and making noise from that side as well to disrupt the MinuteMen patrols.
Remember to come out the the camp tomorrow! There will be a large group of people from San Diego and Los Angeles! Come late in the afternoon as we'll be doing marches and actions at night!
To get there: take the 8 east, exit buckman springs road, go right at the 94, go left at Forrest Gate, follow the road past the Border Patrol buildings, on the dirt road, stay left on the dirt road but don't go into the numbered driveways, park near the porta-potties!
Bring food, sunscreen, a tent, flashlights, lots of noisemakers and lots of friends!
There are only a few of them left! We CAN kick the MinuteMen out of California!
Un Mundo Sin Fronteras, Si Se Puede!

why dont you confront the mexican government for treating their people so poorly..teach people how to enter this country legally..do you really like tj do want to live like your in tj(if you do-I call you on it you know how to get there) cause if you dont regulate immigration thats whats gonna happen..I am in awe at how you can be so washed over with extremism..is the real problem that a bunch of people are getting together to enforce the laws? you should be encouraging your "brothers and sisters" to have the respect to do things the right way.. its not right that people die in a desert trying to have a better life and the MEXICAN government needs to adress that issue ..maybe putting a limit on population growth educate people.. I'm not suggesting anything other than birth control..its not right that people come here from other countries (mainly mexico) make alot of money and send it back to support the mexican economy..not to mention all the benefits that are not readily available to our own citizens because this country is so overpopulated with people that have been cleared with amnesty..again dont get me wrong I feel for people who have it bad, here and abroad but you gotta put your punch in the right spot and to fight the very country that feeds you is wrong...not to mention all the people that feel that part of the u.s. belongs to mexico..after all this country has done for them its like a bad marriage that has to end if you dont believe in your country you dont there and if you are not for this country you should leave.. I'm not speaking specifcally to you but in general...I come from a long line of military men and I am very passionate about this country I dont agree with everything but I could never imagine moving to another country I love my country and if people feel so passionate about mexico-go there clean it up, take pride..but the U.S. and its laws are not the problem for the people of mexico its the people of mexico and their laws, their government..protest there, not here..
cassie A
Is it so wrong that people want to enforce laws?
A law that kills 3500 people is an immoral law. A law that kills 3500 people, when 99.999% of them are Mexican is a racist law. People enforcing laws themselves are vigilantes.
Thus, they are RACIST VIGILANTES and we are going to stop them.
This isn't our only activity, its part of a larger campaign to stop Corporate Globalization, repeal NAFTA, stop CAFTA and much more. Yes, the government of Mexico is corrupt. Yes, the US is conducting economic warfare on Mexico and decimating their economy. We're working to stop that too!

your views are extreme and poorly rationalized, like the spoiled child that tries to spin a web. Like I said we have to own up to our own choices but its not the bp, the minutemen or anyone else who is trying to seal our borders that is to blame..I feel sorry for the people that have lost their lives in search of a better one..but you really need to be targeting their government for their peoples hardship and for you to feel its a move against the "mexican" race is displaced if a pile of canadians were trying to pour into our country and suck everything up we would be combating that as well.. you really need to have some respect for the hand that feeds you or leave..people like you are not welcome in this country..I dont care what color or race you are your views seem to rage an all out war against our country and its values as we know them and for that I believe people like you should be deported..but no our country is so damn weak hearted we try to apease fools like you and tip toe around the facts..seriously MOVE OUT!!!!!!

If there was an island of the coast of Austrailia that promised wealth and prosperioy but the government of the Island declared it illegal for people to enter the island without being documented given the fact that the island was over populated and had no way of tracking these people on this overcrowded would it be racisist because the vast majority of the people dying in the trecherous waters surrounding the island are white that traveled to that island against the will of everybody but there desire to have more. Oh and one more caviot this island once belonged to Austrailia well over 200 years ago which they stole from the natives and sold it to the new island residents. If I were on that island I would be for enforcing the laws before it sank. It's really to bad that the people and the government of Mexico after all these years can't seem to fix there broken country; and I am a Mexican-American.
Antonio
do you think Martin Luther King Jr should've just moved out instead of struggling for human rights?
i'm sorry that our struggle for a better world is frustrating to your racist organizing efforts.
lotu5
actually mlk jr was totally different, again the issues dont relate, he was trying to get equal rights for people in this country aweful hate crimes were commited and socially acceptable-THATS A HUMANS RIGHT VIOLATION..your still missing the point people have to own up to their actions..the world is not going to be a better place with anger and violence..you wanna help those people do it on their own ground.. fight the issues where they start..IN MEXICO..not here..there is no peace in fighting..extremism is not honesty..and back to mlk jr he has alot of good intentions but today thats all taken out of context too, think about it how is someone gonna walk into a business and whether they are white with a pink mohawk or black with a ghettofabulous attitude do you think there is a difference..people pull the race card for everything..own up people need to own up..you wanna do something put your passions in the right place and go to mexico and get them to rally, you guys dont wanna do that though cause its so damn tainted with coruption people there know better.. what your doing is not the right way ..
cassie a
Cassie a, you are much to honest and the truth is not always well received, I do admire your insite and honesty.
Antonio
since i live here, and pay taxes here, i feel that i have a responsibility to change the government i'm funding.
as for human rights issues, you think that thousands of people starving and dying of dehydration in the desert isn't a human rights issue? riiiight. i can't agree with you there.
extremism? you think that saying that people shouldn't be killed for simply wanting a better life, when we're the ones that have destroyed the mexican economy and turned mexico into one big sweatshop, is extremism? get a grip. your rants are really off the hook. maybe you should step away from the computer and read a bit. try this:

The organizing that MMP (and SOS up here near LA) is drawing the fascists out to play. Almost half of the SOS demos here have been supported by a Nazi group. Recently, Joe Turner, founder of the SOS, said, in a vague public statement, that he's "proud to be white."
In the past, the development of street-level anti-illegal-alien movements have led to roundups and deportations of Mexican Americans. In the 1930s, these led to deportations of some 100,000 American *citizens* because they were of Mexican descent. In the 1950s, Operation Wetback led to roundups and harrassments of citizens, and accidental deporations as well.
These activsts, with their backwards politics and veiled racism, only promise to take us back to the "good old days" when violence against immigrant-appearing people was socially acceptable, because they were classified as a threat to the nation and its culture.
Antonio, you'd better get to cracking some brown heads, because if this anti-immigrant, anti-Mexican climate bears any legislative fruit legalizing the MMP thuggery, you want the vigilantes to be able to tell that you're one of the "good Mexicans" who they shouldn't lynch.
randomcrankfromla
If I said I was proud to be brown would I be a racisit? Yes if I only aligned with one group of people for the purpose of hate, such as many white, brown and black groups. No, If am proud of the positive accomplishments to our world, not the illeagal ones. If you can't tell the differance between a recent immigrant to the country and an American, first or second generation immigrant you just need to open your eyes and ears but given your comments you rarely do that unless it's bad mouthing the United States. An ID card that every American would have could demonstrate their citizenship regardless of the color of their skin could be implemented, as I have seen in other countries. Cracken heads speaks volumes about the thinking going on in your head, no body is talking about crackin heads, in actuality the public has seen more violent behaviour from the pro illeagal immigration side in the media than with the other groups.
Antonio
Well it's been interesting; I mainly got out of this is don't take responsibilty for your actions no matter how dangerous they may be and once again blame the U.S for everything. See you guys at the voting booth.

Well Antonio, between the various unrealistic alternatives you entertain, "blame the US for everything," vs. "blame the US for nothing," if we were only offered these two to pick from, at least the former comes a little closer to the truth.

> why dont you confront the mexican government
> for treating their people so poorly..
Huh? The Mexican government aren't white supremist hate mongers parading around in the desert brandishing firearms against peaceful rights activists, are they?
Let's try to stay focused on who the problem is.

I find this recent preocupation with the mexican government by right wingers to be really weird. Of course the Mexican government sucks. All governments suck. Anarchists and radicals of all stripes have supported the zapatistas in their rebellion and struggle for autonomy from the Mexican government. Their are a ton of amazing movements and projects in Mexico and Latin America that we support and deserve more solidarity and support. And in some ways migration allows the steam to be realeased from popular unrest, and thus postponing structural change. But right wingers are caught in a loop because the capitalism (neoliberal versions in particular) that they support actually increases the migration that they hate. One problem with the Mexican government is that its powerful presidents for a long time have been coorporate whores to an economic agenda largely hatched by and operating out of the US.
The other issue is that this is not a white country. It never has been and never will be. the elevation of anglo identity, values and history above the reality of the land that we stand on is playing out in these dialogues. There are still many separations between the two nations states of the US and Mexico, but they are fading away and the maintenance of this notion of two countries neatly divided in a clean straight line is not even for the history book (cause such a history never existed). Hysterical Whitey is trying to harness (even more of) the power of the state, declare the existence of millions of brown people illegal, and stop the decline of the empire. The only problem is that he hasnt even figured out what the problem is.
rich
Maybe this will come to a shock to you but the vast majority of the Mexican government is white. Are they "Whity's" also? You’ve probably only lived is the southwest part of the U.S. most of your life.....right?
