Hi!
Is it OK to come party and say 'adios' to Chase and his morons if one is NOT part of the open border group - perhaps even part of a group you might consider 'bad' We don't share your views on much - but want to celebrate the end of this dumb-ass 'operation'
This event seems like fun, and a good time. Trust me - we are just as happy to see these guys go the hell home as you are. A fiesta is very much in order. We are ready to party too!
Cool ?

Local Bob
Come on out Bob. Hopefully we can have some good conversations and at least celebrate something we have in common. Border issues are very complex and people get very passionate about them for lots of reasons, some good, some bad. A number of folks we work with are locals also, so its not as simple as locals versus non-locals. It is understandable that many people living on the border are frustrated with having to deal with migration, drug smuggling, and a massive border patrol force all in their back yard. I think that migration is the story of history and that erecting walls and controling the movement of bodies is an inherantly anti-democratic practice. but of course that is oversimplified. One thing that I think is very important to recognize is the role of the US government and corporations in conjunction with Mexican elites in destroying the rural economy of Mexico in the name of free trade. Mexico is a great place for a lot of reasons, but until a certain amount of economic equity is established in Mexico (and the US cannot deny its role) then a lot of people will migrate. We, as civil society should also support struggles against neoliberalism within Mexico (such as those of the Zapatista's and other indigenous groups throughout the country). Militarizing borders and forcing millions of people to living clandestinely is stupid and immoral. and dont get me going about the drug war. anyways, hope to see you there as we send the minutemen packing.

Once we get rid of chase and his crew the better. The borders are the responsibility of the INS not these racist baffoons. We must call on the government to do its job and stop the undocumented workers from entering country, implement a decent worker program, and insure those that chose to break the law by coming here do not die in the process.

anyone know how i can get a ride.
angelica
to find a ride, email sdgenteunida@yahoo.com or just get to chicano park for the caravan.
as for the comment calling to "implement a decent worker program"
Worker programs which tie people's human rights to their employers are inhumane and immoral. I totally reject worker programs. What we need is freedom of movement for all people.
Read this, The 12 principles for a regularization program, it's from Solidarity Across Borders in Montreal and I agree totally:

This is awesome too:

everything in nazi germany was legal. you think the jews deserve what they got?
where did your parents immigrate from?
there are laws against anal sex, legality has nothing to do with morality and everything to do with political control. my morality is not defined by some law.
there used to be laws against helping slaves to escape, would you defend those laws too?
oh please
Poster above me - Your argument is the most solid argument I have ever heard since "If you buy drugs, you are supporting terrorists."
Seriously, if we don't like somebody, we should just compare them to Nazi's and slave owners ... that will REALLY put them in their place! Especially if what they are doing has nothing to do with genocide or ownership of a human life ... SOLID ARGUMENT!
Do yourself a favor - argue the points, don't take the Bush administration route of forcing people who disagree with you into extremist groups.
As for the immigration issue, it is a heated topic but we can all agree that the Minutemen were out of line. I think that we do need to cut down on illegal immigration but increase efforts in other areas to help the people of Mexico. However, I don't think a bunch of guys with coolers of Coors and rifles are the answer. I think we all agree on that, hence the event.
Like I have said before, I encourage you all to stop fighting this as extremists and find solutions that will benefit potential Mexican immigrants without going to the extreme of free and open borders. For example, fight for day worker programs, like the one that used to be in place when LA/OC/SD were young, so that men and women can come work in the US and go home to their families and friends at the end of the day. They would get better pay because the government would regulate pay (like minimum wage) and they wouldn't have to risk their lives or lose contact with family in dangerous border crossings. It may not be the ideal for a lot of you, but it is much more likely than the disolving of borders all together.
And don't get up in arms because I use the phrase "illegal immigration" and tell me that forcing them to stay in Mexico should be illegal. That's just annoying.

So you guys are going down to the border to agitate to help George Bush and Vicente Fox continue to exploit the migrants who come to the U.S.?
Brilliant!
With friends like you, the Republican Party should fund this effort.
When the United States is as corrupt as Mexico's ruling regime (and that day is fast approaching), and the U.S. has become a nation only of peones and robber barons with no middle class, where will you advocate for people to migrate to next?
Vancouver??

Why do we need "borders" to stop foreign workers from taking the jobs of American workers? Isn't that the purpose of employer sanctions? If an employer gives a job to an ineligible worker and takes away one from an American worker, put them in jail! Don't put the worker in a detention center! It's the responsibility of the EMPLOYERS to enforce workplace immigration rules, not the workers!
Why do we need "borders" to stop crimes by foreigners? Why don't we also need internal passports to stop crimes by the domestic born population?
Bottom line: We don't need "borders" for people. Borders for controlling shipments of toxic waste, yes. Borders for controlling capital flight and jobs "outsourcing," yes. But borders for people? Quite unnecessary, and harmful to human freedom. to create a class of "victimless crimes" that consist of nothing more than going to and from one PUBLIC PLACE to another as one pleases, and enjoying one's basic human rights to FREEDOM of ASSEMBLY and FREEDOM of ASSOCIATION, which surely are inseparable from FREEDOM of MOVEMENT as well. And if the government can create one category of people who are deprived of their liberties to travel and associate freely in public places, why can't they create additional ones as well? Count on it, they will. And they already do.
Just say NO to "victimless crimes"! A "victimless crime" is just a bureaucratic nonsense excuse for GOVERNMENT TYRANNY.
But having said all that, there is no reason workers should accept the logic of the ruling class pitting other workers against each other. Workers are completely at liberty to insist that the bosses not be entitled to import cheaper labor to displace them. Immigrant rights activists SHOULD NOT fall for the trick of demanding the dismantling of ALL workplace immigration laws, as long as we are stuck in an economy full of STRUCTURAL unemployment. If an employer wants to hire a foreign born worker, let the burden of proof be on THEM to show that a domestic born worker is unavailable to fill the position. I have a big problem with the "Solidarity Across Borders Principles" ( http://solidarityacrossborders.org/en/principles), because they completely overlook this crucial problem, which represents a devastatingly effective wedge for rightwing, antilabor, anti-immigrant xenophobes to use against us.

In that case instead of jail I would recommend suspending the employers operating license if he/she has no dependants whom will be effected by the loss of his/her employment. On the other hand if the employer does have dependants whom will suffer due to the employers misconduct then the business should be turned over to the actual employees if they show a desire to do so and are qualified or can show themselves qualified to safely run the business, in which case the former employer would not be expelled, unless of course they wished to voluntarily leave, but simply demoted to the status of simply another employee or at most a technical advisor with equal pay but with no executive or managerial role to play.
I'm not saying that any of my recommendations will happen, at least not with the way that our legal system is currently set up. However that said as a human rights advocate I can only endorse imprisoning someone who is a direct threat to the lives and health of others and not for what simply amounts to a statute threat because of the way that the economic or legal system is set up.

The fastest route to the abolition of the prison system as we know it is to start giving whitecollars HARD TIME for their offenses. It works wonders!
Look at any whitecollar who has faced time in the prison system for their felonies: Martha Stewart, Michael Milken, etc. They all quickly join the prison reform bandwagon.
Put the bosses in jail for immigration violations in the workplace, not workers!

if you are for a open world why not let the other people speak who have different views? i dont like the illegal issue and i support the MM and what they are trying to do. if it takes a group of citizens to bring the problem to light, so be it! but to say you stand for one thing but then limit what other people say/post well you are no better than a dictator. if someone posts that they love the MM and fully support them then let them post it. and loeave it unlike the posts you deleted from wb4d.
