Judge Irma Gonzales
Federal Courthouse
San Diego, California
Dear Judge Gonzales:
As I sit during early morning prayers on this day,
reflecting on the sacrifices so many Americans have
made; building and protecting our freedoms, I find it
appalling and unconsciencable that you would continue
to punish David Arganoff and Danae Kelly for their
standing up for the right of free association and free
speech guarenteed to all of us under the Constitution.
To compound your disregard for their civil rights,
you also disregarded those of us, taxpayers, who pay
the court costs by not even explaining why on Sept.
7th you chose not to release these young people.
Now, I am in the process of writing a book about
young people and activism. These young people who the
San Diego federal attorney persecutes; not because
they are suspected of a crime but because they stand
up for their rights, will be featured as the heroes
they are.
I urge you to reconsider your decision. To continue
their incarceration is not only unjust and unfair; its
downright contrary to the law - as you know, by now,
they will not give up their rights of free association
and talk to the Grand Jury.
Everyday they sit in jail, another young person is
radicalized. Do us all a favor and release them.
Thanks.

needs to learn what solidarity is before he calls for it
lame
People need to learn how not be children about how they deal with their feelings. I am currently working on a project with David that is for a charity that has nothing to do with this situation that he is in. I personally have nothing to do with this situation that he is in. A person that has a problem with David was hosting the website for our project and with out even the courtesy of an e-mail he dumped what was on our site and put his opinion up. Now this project which unfortunately David hasn't had much of a chance to work on because of his incarceration, and which I have put an enormous ammount of time and love into is on hold because the information was dumped from the site. No e-mail no warning at all just dump, so that this devisive bullshit could be propagated. I understand that there is a lot of emotion surrounding this problem, I don't even know all of what is going on, but I don't need to. If you want to really win this you all have to stand together no matter what...that is what "true" solidarity is.
With that said, it think that the very essence of "lame" is dump someone elses work without warning, and posting anonymously. It is childish and stupid if you aren't willing to stand up for what you have to say don't say it.

My homepage didn't come up in the comment above so here it is.

I am willing to take heat to stand up for what I have to say.

"that has nothing to do with this situation"
so why are you posting it here?
this seems like a personal issue, indymedia is for news not personal wars
so grow up
This is what I'm trying to point out. The tactics that are being used in this situation are person attacks on David and anything that has anything to do with David regardless of who else it affects. Then the people that pull this crap aren't even adult enough to tell you that they are going to do it. OR they are busy posting a coment that they aren't even willing to back up with a real name or a way to contact them. That is the very essence of childish.
Yes it is personal, but if you take a look at the other posts you will find that I am by far not the only person here with an agenda. At least I stand behind mine as opposed to just smearing someone and leaving a name like "Lame". If you think that I'm being childish take a look at the other people around here.

If David wants solidarity why is he talking about betrayal in his message? Judging others as betrayers of the cause is not a solidarity building exercise.
We all have our own agendas, just because all the people subpeonaed didn't refuse to testify does not equal betrayal. All each activist can do is what his/her conscience tells them. We shouldn't be judging those who are on our side but choose different tactics and different levels of involvement.
I support David and his decision not to testify, but I can't support his judgements of the "Dago Activist Community" or his call to spend 3% of every day learning about veganism.
Solidarity is found in diversity not converting everyone to our own individual way of thinking.

The Vault of Punk Horror was a *charity* project to support ending violence against womyn. So the guy who shut down the site and attacked David is hurting this desperately needed source of funds for womyn living in fear and danger. David has been a staunch advocate of ending misogyny and violence against womyn. So this attack was, as far as I can tell, was done by a right-wing-nut interested in attacks on activists and promoting violence against womyn. If that is not the case he needs to come forward, apologize on both counts (and mean it), then make some restitution to David and to the womyn's project. Personally I am helping several families try to find safety and recover from rape and other sexual violence. This attack on the Vault was an attack on me and all the womyn. Violence against womyn has reached epidemic proportions. Some creep shutting down aid to that movement is unconscionable.
Some guy decides to attack an activist who he previously supported...but he waits till the activist is behind bars...this is newsworthy and the San Diego activist community needs to be aware and stay away from vipers of his ilk. What a low-cowardly blow. I don't know the guy who posted garbage about David then shut down his site but I know that if I met him I would tell him he is a coward and request that he go home till he learns to be a socially-apt human being. Pretty low. Solidarity, making activist communities healthier, stronger, supporting each other when one stands firm...that is where our focus needs to be. Helping each other...not back-stabbing.
Thanks for all your good work Gabriel, as a parent I know it is hard to reach out to others (time and money are sparse!) but there you are...helping womyn and standing up for your colleague. And thanks to you and David for setting up this charity-anthology!!!
M.N.
you seem to know david, do you know why he was telling people peter was ok with him and said that peter was going to write stories for this
it sounds like david was back stabbing somene who has been behind bars and working against him
curious
according to the information on Gabriel's link, the person who pulled the website down is also in the picture at the support rally... wtf ?! we have all gone insane.

I honestly wouldn't know...I only know David et al. through the internet. The only people that I have seen pictures of are David and Cari. As far as the site getting dumped. I recevied an e-mail a week before it happened, I just haden't actually read it because I didn't have access to that particular e-mail account (it is kind of a long story involving the theft of my home computer), but needless to say I still think it is dumb. David's call for solidarity is a chance to mend wrongs and for you to all come together as a community, but instead it is beaing used as a chance to attack him and tear your community down more. As someone that isn't an activist (in the same sence that people like Peter or David are), I can tell you that from the outside this looks like a disorganized mess, and a bunch of petty grudges. It is sad to me that you can't all rally together, help David and Peter put ther differences aside, and help them both get through their incarcerations. Just my opinion though, I'm sure that it will be bashed.
