So Cal Free Net provided us with their skills to set up the hotspot. The install took two Sundays to complete. Last week we set up the antenna on the roof of the building and this week we secured the antenna and set up the wireless router.

So Cal Free Net sets up Access points around Golden Hill, South Park and Sherman Heights. Please visit their sites to learn more about their project:

SDIMC is really excited about the addition of internet access to our new location. As you can imagine having access to the net is a pretty important of an Independent Media Center. We look forward to using the connection for our new member orientation meeing this Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30.

San Diego IndyMedia is also planning for a new thing on Wednesday, March 15 in cooperation with the Borderlands Hacklab. website:

We are going to have an "Open Hack Night." We are asking you to bring your computer, short films, or audio clips for a chance to share and collaborate with others. Maybe we will work on making a short film or maybe we will start an open source project. We came up with this idea at a Hacklab meeting and then found that there is a similar music hack going on in San Diego. They do a little better job explaining the idea, so just go to their website and think of the same thing, but for tech, computers, video and media. Here's the link:

We are happy to share this internet connection with the community. We hope it is of use for people making art, music and media at Voz Alta. We would like to thank So Cal Free Net for their help. We hope to see you soon.

Please Don't Feed the Trolls

Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: "either a person who sends messages on the Internet hoping to entice other users into angry or fruitless responses, or a message sent by such a person." San Diego IMC strives to provide both a grassroots media resource as well as a forum for people to contribute to a meaningful discussion about local issues. Please, when posting comments, be respectful of others and ignore those trying to interrupt or discourage meaningful discourse. Thank you.
