In late May teachers in Oaxaca went on strike demanding pay increases, improved working conditions, uniforms, and supplies. The Governor of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz, responded by sending in military police to beat and tear gas the teachers on strike. This would only be the beginning of the violence from the Mexican government. Six months later the struggle continues. As more time goes by more people in Oaxaca are being arrested, disappeared, suppressed, raped, imprisoned, and killed. International attention and pressure is desperately needed. Another event will be held this Sunday at 1pm at La Milpa Organica 9988 Protea Gardens Road, Escondido, CA 92026. There will be food, films, and Oaxacan teacher Telesforo Santiago Enriquez will be speaking. For more information about the event call 619.591.6044 or email vapor-oaxaca@riseup.net.
