I'm sure many of you have been following the unfolding events in Oaxaca and beyond. A little food for thought: A reporter friend of mine who has been following the events quite closely was told by someone in Mexico that what is unfolding is a "dirty war."

Dirty War being the operative term for what we know happened in Argentina (see  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_war) is quite a heavy description for what we are now seeing. My friend who was told this was quite taken aback by the phrase being used having been herself affected by the so called Dirty War. However, as she contemplated the usage of the term being applied to the recent events in Mexico she realized that perhaps it is apt. We have seen systematic rape, members of the APPO are being "disappeared," protesters and journalists have been killed, the majority of the media seems to have looked the other way, and the new administration has "lists" of people to arrest who have done nothing but exercise their rights to free speech and protest. Much of what I have mentioned has occured within days of the swearing in of a new president. How arrogant can one be to step into office and commit such acts such as arresting key negotiators of the APPO? I myself have already heard of mexican citizens trying to seek amnesty for fear of their lives. It is time that our community support our brothers and sisters in Mexico before its too late. I will be attending some of the events below if anybody wants to roll.

Peace
