BLACKFIRE, Fri 8PM da Blackdoor, North Park
repost from e-mail, durango indymedia,
BLACKFIRE, with Dias Tristes
"BLACKFIRE's style comprises traditional Native American, Punk-Rock and 'Alter-Native' with strong sociopolitical messages about government oppression, relocation of indigenous people, ecocide, genocide, domestic violence and human rights."
"i think we need to recognize that all our struggles are connected, whether they be sexism, heterosexism, destruction of the earth, exploitation of indigenous people and their land to the war- invasion in Iraq, all of these things are connected. There are some roots in a belief system and the value of "success" and the value is not in life but in money. All of these corporations, free trade agreements, all of these things are fueled by globalization that is connected to the colonization of our people. It's the same thing, the same force, the same form that we've been fighting for over 500 years on this continent, and it's on a larger scale now. It's something that is connected to all these struggles that we really need to recognize and build the bridges and build the solidarity. And solidarity means action." JULY 4000/JULIO 4000
July 4000 Committee,
Join the JULY 4000 Committee
July 4th, 9am at 25th and Imperial Ave. in San Diego
for a symbolic display of 4,000 white flags, strung together down Imperial Avenue in remembrance of the casualties of “citizenship”
According to official estimates, more than 4,000 people have died crossing through the borderlands since Operation Gatekeeper began in 1994. Human rights advocates place the number at more than 10,000. Each year sets a new record for number of deaths.
History will not be kind when it judges the 4th of July 2006. Our children’s children will one day have the clarity to peel back the star-spangled veneer of patriotic allegiance, revealing the hypocrisy of “freedom and justice for all.” Exposed will be the cold and vicious crimes against humanity done in the name of flags.

White Nationalist/Fascism is Gendered
Anonymous,
White nationalisms have become gendered in the United States. In this short piece, I examine how collective organizing amongst White women's groups and people of color that are allied with the Minutemen are very much gendered to be constructed around mainstream American ideals that the White hetero-male prides himself on.

The problem with "the immigration problem"
Everardo Carvajal,
Why so many different takes to "the immigration problem?" The answer lies in the oversimplification of the issue. I will not diagnose the source(s) of these over-simplistic notions, only attempt to clear up the mud.

Minutemen's Border Fence Vandalized
fuck you minutemen,
There are holes in a border fence put up by the Minuteman Project.
Volunteers with the border watch group built it last month near Palominas.
But someone tore it up.
The new Minuteman fence resembles the current border fence and it now has
even more similarities because parts of it are in pieces.

South Santa Fe Ave and Escondido Ave
Vista, CA 92084
The immigrant community in Vista has been struggling against repeated racist attacks by the powerful, starting with the murder of three latino men over a five day period last summer by sheriffs, the harrassment of day laborers by racist vigilantes, the recent border patrol sweeps through neighborhoods in Vista and other parts of San Diego County, and now the imminent passage of a secret, immigrant-bashing ordinance by the Vista City Council mandating registration and visible identification of employers of day laborers.
The North County Coalition for Peace, Justice and Dignity is organizing a project to document the activities of Border Patrol Agents and racist vigilantes in their communities. Join them in resisting the ordinance against day laborers by forming a human chain from the most contentious day laborer site to City Hall:

Immigration Sweep Brings Fear to Community
repost from AP,
Fewer parents are walking their children to school in this border city's Linda Vista neighborhood. The crowd of day laborers huddled in a parking lot outside McDonald's has dropped by half.
A sense of unease has spread in this community of weather-worn homes since
immigration agents began walking the streets as part of a stepped-up nationwide effort targeting an estimated 590,000 immigrant fugitives. Other illegal immigrants are being rounded up along the way.

Support Arrested Immigrants Rights Activist!!
Support Josh,
Support and Witnesses Needed for Arrested Immigrants Rights Activist!
On June 3rd, Immigrant Rights Activists held a rally in San Ysidro, CA to protest the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border and the oppressive, racist Hagel-Martinez bill. A small group of racist vigilantes from the Minutemen Project were confronted in a vocal, but very peaceful manner. During this confrontation the police assaulted and arrested Josh, a pro-immigrant rights activist, claiming that he had thrown a punch at an officer.
Josh is no longer in custody but is facing legal charges. The charge that a punch was thrown at an officer is an outright fabrication. We are calling on all who were present at the event and witnessed the arrest or any other incidents of police brutality to contact the support committee at standuptopower@yahoo.com

Bush has bestowed on his intelligence czar, John Negroponte, broad authority, in the name of national security, to excuse publicly traded companies from their usual accounting and securities-disclosure obligations. Notice of the development came in a brief entry in the Federal Register, dated May 5, 2006, that was opaque to the untrained eye. - Dawn Kopecki , BusinessWeek

A Long Walk Home: Moving Film on Sudan
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
"A Long Walk Home," a 42-minute documentary on Sudan produced by a team of San Diego filmmakers and directed by Tiffany Frances Huang, was shown at the Media Arts Center in San Diego May 18 and proved to be an intensely moving depiction of the plight of southern Sudanese refugees stuck in Cairo, Egypt. They flee there in hopes of getting help from the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) — only to wait months or even years before the commission even opens a file on their case. The film isn't all depressing, though; it also shows the dance and theatre group some of the refugees formed to keep their spirits up and celebrate Sudanese culture. Grace Smith, a member of the filmmaking team, appeared at the showing and took questions.

Video Game Genocide
Xiuhcoatl of Aztlan Rising,
With Minutemen on the border and the President promising National Guard deployment there, the anti-Mexican sentiment and reactionary xenophobia in this country has been manifested in a video game. “Border Patrol,” which is credited to the bigoted neo-Nazi Tom Metzger, puts you in the role of a hunter/murderer who patrols the southern border with Mexico. Your objective: “Keep them out…at any cost!” “Them,” by the game's definition, are the “wetbacks” trying to cross the border from Mexico.
