border issues

Call For Roadless Summer Against I-69
roadless summer,

North America's economic planners have re-prioritized
the construction of I-69, the NAFTA superhighway.
Connecting Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the
highway would serve to increase the flow of goods
complicit with the expansion of "free" trade. The
effects of this highway are both local and global.
I-69 is one integral link in a global chain of
exploitation. By breaking this link, we take one
definitive step toward the destruction of the chain.

Now is the Time to Stop the Border Fence!
stop the triple fence,

Here is some of the list traffic from  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/borderfencesolution/ and other emails today. It is unfortunate that everyone is so snowed about the need for a triple fence to stop terrorists. We have to get the Senate to say no to the bill that would exempt this fence from environmental laws.

Contact the County Supervisors and contact Boxer and Feinstein!

Border Fence in the News - Stop the Fence!
no borders,

This morning on NPR was I happy to hear another story about the Border Fence. The recent House passage of a bill to exempt the construction of the Border Fence from environmental laws is ridiculous and deserves national attention. Hopefully as people across the country realize the implications of putting fear above environmental preservation they will try to get this bill stopped in the Senate.

Need a shirt say more? The "Remember the Dead! Fight for the Living! Reclaim the Streets" rally snaked its way through the streets of downtown San Diego. Activists Report from Colombia, Iraq
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

Two long-term activists in the San Diego community gave reports on their recent trips to the front lines of the so-called "war on terror" at Activist San Diego's January 10 meeting. Fernando Suárez del Solár, whose son was killed in Iraq in the early days of the war, talked about his second attempt to visit the country with a Global Exchange delegation, the refusal of Jordanian authorities to let his group cross the border, and the atrocities he heard about from Iraqis. Activist San Diego founder Martin Eder discussed the deteriorating situation in Colombia, where activists are killed by U.S.-backed paramilitaries and a Colombian government run by their former general.

Why Thanksgiving?
Garmon,

Why does anyomne continue to legitimize the Thanksgiving holiday by celebrating it? Eating Tofurkey does not change what thanksgiving is truly a celebration of.

The first official "Day of Thanksgiving" was proclaimed in 1637 by Governor Winthrop. He did so to celebrate the safe return of men from Massachusetts who had gone to Mystic, Connecticut to participate in the massacre of over 700 Pequot women, children, and men.

Local Activists Protest Falloujah Attacks
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Freedom? As U.S. forces and elements of its puppet government in Iraq attacked the holy city of Falloujah this week, San Diego peace activists took to the streets twice, on Wednesday, November 10 and Saturday, November 13 to say no to the attacks and the continuing U.S. occupation of Iraq. Despite heckling from pro-war "Protest Warriors," a diverse group of activists spoke out against the war and, in the Saturday event, staged a peaceful and successful march downtown.
