SWARM the MinuteMen!
South West Action to Resist the MinuteMen,

SWARM The MinuteMen PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY

Enough is enough.

We reject everything about the minutemen. The minutemen function and exist when the rest of us, the vast majority of us, remain silent. Even in an environment of fear and uncertainty we all know that immigrants are not the reason for America's problems, nor should they be the powerless scapegoat. Because the vast majority of us look upon slavery, japanese interment and manifest destiny as sick, tragic pages in our history, we have no tolerance for these hyper-patriotic bigots, masquerading as virtuous citizens. It is our intention to resist, sabotage, and destroy this project before it gets any farther down this road of organized hate and violence.

Martial Law on the Border
Sean Mariano Garcia,

This Wednesday, we got final language from the House and Senate negotiators working on the Iraqi War Funding bill regarding their decisions on REAL ID. By and large, they adopted REAL ID in its
entirety.

REAL ID now provides the Secretary of Homeland Security with the Authority to waive any legal regulation that would impede the construction of border barriers, fences, or roads. This construction would only be contestable in the courts on constitutional grounds.

With this bill, we are not only seeing the steamrolling over 30 years of environmental regulations, but also the assurance that more people will die crossing the border thanks to the US's failed trade policies.

Elite Ubermensch They could have already enlisted and be patrolling the mean-streets of Baghdad, Mosul and Sadr City. All of them 17-39 years old could have enlisted on 9/11 in the Marines, U.S. Army; those 40 to 55 could already be hired for security duties in Iraq by Blackwater and the other 22 corporate security firms pulling ops in hostile lands.

Arizona Dream
Rene Flores,

jesus - lost in the memories that flood back in with our questions A team of journalists from Radioactive San Diego and San Diego Indymedia are sent to the Arizona/Sonora border region, where a group of armed volunteers known as the Minutemen Project has decided to camp by the border to stop the flow of undocumented migrants. During their first night in Douglas, Arizona, the San Diego journalists get chased down by the Border Patrol. Crossing the border into Agua Prieta, Sonora, a former coyote relates to them his life story and concludes: “risks are big, but necessity is bigger.” At the border, they meet Jim Gilchrist, the first Minutemen, who reveals he opposes “powerful corporate enterprise,” considers Mexican migrants to be “economic refugees,” and that he babysits his Mexican grandchild every Sunday.

Movimiento Libertario Cubano,

The Coming Civil War and Repolarization
duko,

Just to be clear, I didn't choose this title lightly or
facetiously, but in all seriousness. In speaking to "a coming
civil war" I am "drawing inspiration" from Newt Gingrich (the
prominent Republican politician who was formerly the Speaker of
the House of Representatives), who has made the observation that
what's happening now in the electoral arena and the broader
things that it reflects in U.S. society is analogous to what was
going on in the U.S. in the 1840s and the 1850s, and that this
isn't something that will—I'm paraphrasing, but this is the
essence—this isn't something that will go away. It will only be
decided when one side or the other wins out.

A Rising Movement Against The MinuteMen and the Border
lotus for sd indymedia,

Desde el otro lado... STOP THE FENCE! UPDATE 4/5/2005 9:00AM - Press conference today and National Days of Action to stop REAL ID

What better place than Tombstone, Arizona, where gun-toting actors dressed like sheriffs and outlaws keep the nostalgia of the Wild West alive, to be the focal point of yet another vigilante convergence. The Minuteman Project, as it is called, is being organized by two of southern Arizona's most notorious and outspoken border vigilantes: Chris Simcox and Jim Gilchrist. Their plan is to place "observers" every quarter mile along a 20-mile stretch of border from Douglas to the San Pedro River during the month of April.

However, their actions will not go unopposed. Legal observers are being trained to watch over and document the Minutemen. Counter protests, vigils and other border activities are also planned to take place throughout April. ( April Unity Events )

In San Diego and Tijuana, on April 2nd, 2005, numerous organizations including the Border Angels, FIST ( Fight Imperialism, Stand Together), the Brown Berets, Code Pink, and the ORGANIC collective held a march and a rally at the US/Mexico border, the site of the construction of the Triple Border Fence. This rally was against HR 418, against the Triple Border Fence and against the Minutemen. Between 50 and 75 people were in attendance for the 1.5 mile march, followed by a rally on both sides of the fence. In addition, plans for borderHack 2.005 were announced for this summer.

As the MinuteMen project in Arizona takes the media spotlight, Congress is quietly trying to roll back 30 years of environmental regulations and create a buffer zone of martial law along the borders of the US. HR 418 recently passed in the House and is currently being fast tracked through the Senate. This law would completely exempt any project to build fences or roads in the region of the borders of the US from all environmental laws. This would include the border with Canada as well as the border with Mexico.

Posse Is Headed for the Wrong Roundup
LA Times/Steve Lopez, c/o lotus,

The ringleaders, who include a retired Orange County accountant, were expecting several hundred volunteers to saddle up — some of them armed — and seal the Arizona-Mexico border today. If you happen to be in the area, give wide berth to anyone who looks like a cast member from "F-Troop," and do not wear a straw hat or carry a jug of water, because you could be shot dead.

"This represents a general tendency to demonize the immigrant," said Harry Pachon of the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute. He spoke to me during a break at a downtown Los Angeles conference on immigration.
