Water: Next Target for Privatization
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

The corporate globalizers may have been at least temporarily stymied by the collapse of the Agreement on Agriculture at the September 8-14 World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial meeting in Canc?n, Mexico, but undaunted by the delay in their total takeover of the world's food supply they are moving on to grab ownership of another, equally important human survival need: water. On September 26 the San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club presented three speakers in a forum at Otto Center in Balboa Park targeting the efforts of giant multinational corporations to privatize the world's water supply and mobilizing support for alternatives.

Latest land rush may change Arizona forever
Jon Talton,

Powerful people believe we can motor on as we have for 50 years. And even if the roof falls in, they got their profits. The rest of us should reflect on the lessons of the 1980s and 1990s. "Growth" doesn't pay for itself.

The Environment/Energy Balance
Gabrielle Reilly,

Oil Spill in Spain YES, I am a tree hugger. I drove down the Western Australian Coast with my feet up on the dash board, meditated and danced joyously by the rivers, strummed my guitar by the ocean and sang ?Imagine? with my mates? Those days were much simpler; the environment/energy balance was really just a single issue then. Social balance was achieved by the extremes on both sides, the greenies against the capitalists. The environment cannot be looked at as a single issue anymore as the complexity of global war has heated up. A whole new paradigm of cause and effect is relevant on how we address the energy/environment balance.
