The Sorry-ass State of the Union
Daniel Shays,
Out here in the real world, citizens can hardly be faulted for wondering just what compassion the man was referring to. It certainly wasn?t compassion for future generations and life on the planet. The words environment or Earth were never even uttered

Ford: Holding America Hostage to Oil
lotus,
Environmental and Human Rights Activists Scale Downtown Skyscraper and Release Giant Banner to Protest US Oil Addiction. Among those involved were several activists from San Diego.
The unfurling of the banner occurred as people entered the LA Auto Show just blocks away. The banner was designed to raise public awareness about how Ford Motor Company and other auto manufacturers are needlessly keeping the US dependent on oil by refusing to increase the fuel economy of their vehicles.
"A typical Ford vehicle on the road today gets fewer miles per gallon than the Model-T did 80 years ago," said Jason Mark, Clean Car Campaigner with the human rights group Global Exchange.

Wilderness Arson and the Greenhouse Effect
Eric Stewart,
Some GIS folks have postulated that "small scale" nuclear winter would alleviate pressure, allowing for global warming but not of a greenhouse variety. These same people have postulated that large scale forest fires would have the same effect. Somehow, somewhere someone seems to be postulating that global desertification is prefferable to greenhouse warming. Could it be the privatizers of water? Too bad they won't consider lessening resource consumption.

San Diego is Burning
lotus,
Massive fires are sweeping all across southern california. As one poster put it, San Diego is on fire. Large portions of San Diego county have been evacuated. Please post your photos and personal accounts here.
The story you won't hear in the corporate media is that increased wildfires are a consequence of global warming. Last week, San Diego had a record breaking heat wave, but this week, newscasters can't seem to put the facts together.
