electoral politics

America is the Ultimate Failed State.
Lloyd Hart,

d After knocking down most of its forests, paving over its wetlands, polluting what water it has left and making all urban environments only habitable with what has become an accepted level of collateral damage in terms of illness and death caused by environmental pollution which has set off a domino effect of ill health down through the generations exposed, America has become like a caged animal not willing to face its own condition but yet completely willing to lash out violently at the World around it.

A Different Perspective on Voting
Tim Babbidge,

The primary cause of nonvoting is the fact that we have a one party, Republocratic, system that is corporate dominated. This system is supported by a corporate media that focuses on the horse race, e.g. polls and fundraising, to disguise the lack of choice.

Senator John Kerry and the Democrats are Peei
Lloyd Hart,

l Now that campaigning to the far right has failed to get a rise out of the American public all my Democratic Party friends are running around bumping into each other in fear and loathing realizing that the Democratic leadership Council and its lead poisoned leader Al From - who is cowering inside the pup tent he pitched inside the Big Tent to perform by pass surgery on Bill Clinton's heart (which is so full of saturated fat it really does need bypass surgery) so that Clinton could sign the child poverty creating Welfare Reform Act - has led Senator John Kerry down a rabbit hole.

Take the Red/Green Pill -- Join the Green All
Yoshie Furuhashi,

Discontent that the Green Party missed a great opportunity to capitalize upon a giant gulf between the pro-war Democratic Party elite and anti-war rank-and-file Democrats and other voters on the left in 2004? Angry with the Democratic Party's undemocratic violation of voting rights of supporters of Ralph Nader/Peter Camejo and other candidates on the left? Want a political party that grows out of, and in turn helps grow, social movements on the left? Join the Green Alliance.

Queer Dems Won't Prioritize Aguirre
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club has endorsed Mike Aguirre's run for City Attorney but refused to make his race a club priority at their August 26 meeting. The club also declined to make a rating in the race for Mayor of San Diego — in which, since both incumbent Dick Murphy and challenger Ron Roberts are Republicans, they're not allowed to endorse — even though Roberts came to the club and spoke while Murphy bailed out.

Ballot Access: Unsafe in Any State
Yoshie Furuhashi,

Bush has moved past Kerry in the battleground states of Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin, in part because Kerry is "attracting only about four-fifths or fewer of the voters in the three states who said they want a new course." And what do the Democrats do? Crank up the Anybody But Nader campaign! In Butler, Board of Elections Deputy Director Betty McGary, a Democrat, and Board of Elections Director Robert Mosketti, a Republican, collaborated with each other to disqualify 95% [!] of the signatures on the Nader petitions.

Lou Dobbs, Radical Populist
Lou Dobbs and Bill Moyers,

Who'd-a thunk it? Lou Dobbs, commonly regarded as a partisan, hyper-capitalist Republican financial commentator on CNN, goes on PBS's NOW WITH BILL MOYERS August 20 and says things about multinational corporations, exporting jobs, corporate power over American politics and media, and the dismal future of America's middle class you'd expect to hear from an anarchist at an anti-globalization rally. We'll sure miss NOW when it gets cut to half an hour next year due to pressure from Right-wing corporate funders and the Bush administration.

U.S. Poor, Uninsured Increase
Los Angeles Times Web site,

The U.S. Census Bureau just released its annual report which revealed that the numbers of poor and uninsured people in the U.S. is steadily increasing. Median income is remaining the same while expenses are rising. This report is usually issued in September but Democrats are accusing the Bush administration of pushing it up so it's less of a factor in the election.

Jim Hightower Draws 600 in San Diego
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Jim Hightower Progressive author and organizer Jim Hightower spoke to a standing-room-only audience at the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in Hillcrest Friday, August 20. Hightower’s message was that progressives and populists must do all they can in this election campaign to make sure Democrat John Kerry beats George W. Bush and becomes President — but that’s only the beginning, not the end, of the task. “Beating Bush is not a progressive victory; it just brings us to ground level,” he said. “The day after the election we’re going to have to be in the face of the Kerry-Edwards administration to make them as progressive as we can,” he said.

Organizing Six Million Nader/Camejo Supporter
Yoshie Furuhashi,

For leftists, an electoral campaign like Nader/Camejo 2004 is a means, not an end in itself. Use the campaign as an occasion that allows us to go out and discover our allies who have not met us -- and one another -- yet.

I'll Piss On His Grave
gdy,

With the death of Ronald Reagan the world will now face a weeklong orgy of grandiloquent of US military power and American Imperialism. Reagan was a cold-blooded murderer, a union busting parasite, con artist, and a good liar. Reagan was evil personified, he can rot in hell.
