“HIV/AIDS": Faith-Based Science
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Veteran alternative AIDS journalist Celia Farber recently published an article, "Out of Control: AIDS and the Corruption of Medical Science," in the March 2006 Harper's Magazine, blasting both the unscientific propaganda put out by the AIDS establishment to justify the assertion that HIV is the sole cause of AIDS and the destruction of the reputations of scientists who dare to question the orthodox view of AIDS. This article contrasts her piece to more typical articles on AIDS that reflect the mainstream view and accept it uncritically, and suggests that former President Eisenhower's warning of the dangers of a "scientific-technological elite" (from the same speech in which he used the phrase "military-industrial complex") have come true in AIDS policy.

"Why We Fight" Opens Today at Ken Cinema
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Eugene Jarecki's "Why We Fight," a powerful documentary on the imperialist agenda that has dominated U.S. foreign policy since the end of World War II, opens today (Friday, February 17) at the Ken Cinema in Kensington. Directed by Eugene Jarecki, the new film begins with former President Eisenhower's famous 1961 warning against "unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex" and shows how that "complex" has become an integral and almost ineradicable part of American society. "Why We Fight" represents a major political advance over Jarecki's previous film, "The Trials of Henry Kissinger" — whereas "Kissinger" was a liberal film, "Why We Fight" is a radical one.

The Terrorists’ Veto
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
The current controversy over the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten's commissioning and publication of 12 cartoons depicting and caricaturing Muhammad is proof that the so-called "war on terror" really IS a clash of civilization. Despite the legitimacy of some Muslim grievances against the West (particularly the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine and the U.S. aggression against Iraq), the attack on the cartoons by an organization of 56 Muslim nations and street activists constitutes an attempt to use the threat of terrorism to force Western media to abide by the medieval laws of Islam at its most intolerant. Jyllands-Posten culture editor Flemming Rose is a hero of free speech and the cartoons should be reproduced in all Western media.

Why Clean Elections Help Minority Parties
JD ,
It is often cited that the adoption of Clean Elections will do harm to minority parties. Learn how they do it...

Grass-Roots Supervisor Candidate at Queer Dem
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club heard from several past and future candidates for office at its January 26 meeting, but the most compelling presentation was given by Richard Barrera, running for San Diego County Supervisor on a platform aimed at ending the all-Republican Board's current culture and treating the County's health and welfare clients as human beings, not welfare cheats. San Diego City Councilmember Donna Frye and former Council candidate Lorena Gonzalez also spoke, and the club heard from former City Councilmember John Hartley on a "clean-elections" plan for public financing of campaigns that, if it works the way it has in Maine and Arizona, could help grass-roots candidates like Barrera get elected. |

Goodbye, Privacy and Freedom
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
The revelation that the Bush administration subpoenaed four Internet search engines — Yahoo, Microsoft, AOL and Google — demanding records of the Net searches made by one million clients for one week, and the fact that all these companies except Google complied, is just the latest in the current administration's relentless assault on the very idea of a right to privacy. Coupled with the administration's blatant flouting of the law in ordering wiretaps on U.S. citizens, and the likelihood that Americans will accept this latest invasion of their privacy as necessary to fight the "war on terror" successfully, these are just further steps in the abolition of America's constitutional republic and its replacement with a neo-fascist Presidential dictatorship.

Gore Speech Proves Ralph Was Wrong!
E.A. Barrera, Espresso Newspaper,
Al Gore's speech to the Liberty Coalition on January 16 once more reinforces why he should have been President of the United States these past five years.
