EMERGENCY PROTEST PROTEST TITAN CORP IN SAN DIEGO - MAY 6TH 4-6PM - Get the details. San Diego based Titan Corporation participates in the detention and torture of Iraqis, as reported in this article from the Manchester Guardian. Graphic photographs showing the torture and sexual abuse of Iraqi prisoners in a US-run prison outside Baghdad emerged yesterday from a military inquiry which has left six soldiers facing a possible court martial and a general under investigation. The scandal has also brought to light the growing and largely unregulated role of private contractors in the interrogation of detainees. Read more of original posting. Important forest call to action in San Diego!
So EF!,
This Wednesday, May 5th the board of forestry in conjunction with Pacific Lumber (Maxxam) will be meeting in San Diego to essentially rubber stamp the destruction of the Salmon Nations. They will be meeting to "decide"
whether or not to list several species of Salmon and Steelhead as endangered, which would grant them EPA protections.
They planned on meeting in secret without public involvement; it’s up to us to ensure that does not happen! Join activists from all over California as we journey to San Diego to represent the ancient forests of the North...

Border Patrol on a Rampage
xicanafarian,
It seemes as though the migra is also going through budget cuts and in an attempt to "rationalize" and "justify" their budget, they have taken it upon themselves to go balls out on raids and the patrolling of brown folks. Through the grapevine, I received an email that was directly issued from the Border Patrol to the SDTC (transit system) and was circulated internally amongst the transit system employees. It reads like this...

Hardware and Volunteers Urgently Needed
lotus,
We urgently need donations of PC and Mac hardware for San Diego Indymedia and for a new Indymedia in Guadalajara being set up to cover a mobilization there.
Recently we have had a number of hardware failures, and most of the hardware that we do have is many years old. We need computers for all the projects we're working on, Sandiego.Indymedia.Org, the Free Press, and our new video collective.
In addition, we are looking for volunteers who want to help us create independent media. We need people with all kinds of skills, tech skills, editorial skills, photo, audio, video, fundraising, you name it.
If you want to continue to see great, honest, radical coverage of social movements in San Diego, please volunteer some time to help us make that happen.
Please contact us to donate time or hardware at 619-233-5002, or by emailing us info at sdimc dot org.

Stop the Cuevas Family From Deportation
Vee,
UPDATE from Scott Lay: We had great success getting signatures on the petition to Senator Dianne Feinstein requesting assistance with the Cuevas family. Unfortunately, there has been no action from Feinstein’s office. Therefore, we need to put pressure on Barbara Boxer—who faces reelection this November—and the local Congressman, Pete Stark.
Please sign the petition today. Also, please forward this message (or from the site) to your friends. This e-mail is only being sent to the 399 people who consented to be contacted with follow-up information about the Cuevas family. So, we need lots of forwards to get to the 2,600 signatures we got on the Feinstein petition.
DON’T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!

San Diegans Take to the Street to Say No to War!
San Diego,
Stories from the street: Critical Mass | This is What Democracy Looks Like | Survivors speak
Photos: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 // Videos: 1
Protests around the worldThousands of San Diego's concerned citizens took to the streets to exercise their rights to object to the Bush regime's objectives in Iraq and the world. Remembering the one year anniversity of the carnage in the middle-east which has claimed almost 600 american dead, over 3500 wounded, and probably 10,000 Iraqi dead, whom have been "sanitized" with the discription of "collateral damage". The failure of the american media to cover this human misery in any depth is only part of the travesty. The manipulation and complicity of the media under the guise of patriotism has keep the real story from the american voting public. So the people took to the streets today, while keeping in mind that the so called "Patriot Act" has among its aims the elimination of just this type of dissent. Starting at the Federal Courthouse in downtown San Diego, the first small group was joined en route by several other groups, until a crowd of about 3,000 entered Balboa park to hear testimony from mothers of deceased Iraqi war veterans, peace activists, and ordinary citizens opposed to the current U.S. policy of world domination by force for U.S. corporate profit.
