Report from SW College Anti-Racist Rally
At Southwest College this morning at 11am, the group FIST held a rally to denounce the school newspaper "The Sun" for printing a racist editorial attacking immigrants. Under a large tent on a cold, rainy morning, over 100 students, mostly latino/a, including many Mexican Americans, gathered to listen to speakers denounce the recent article in the school paper, The Sun.

“KNOW THE FACTS”
February 6th, 2005 marks the 29th Anniversary of the arrest of American Indian Movement and Human Rights Activist Leonard Peltier. Last year Mr. Peltier ran for President of the United States on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket and was a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. Mr. Peltier is recognized as a political prisoner by Amnesty International and has had the support of world leaders including Mikhail Gorbachav, Nelson Mandela, Mary Robinson, Archibishop Desmond Tutu and Rigoberta Menchu Tum. 
While the commander in theif was giving his speech here in ameriKa the rest of the planet saw an image of a little 4 year old girl with the blood of her parents dripping from her body. The BBC has 11 images of this death seen from the first shot fired by our own military.

Feb 1st,9:30am: City Council Meeting at 202 C Street in downtown San Diego. Joe Williams, III, a Peace & Freedom Party Supporter is requesting that J20 participants and organizers attend the City Council meeting and speak during the public comment period requesting that all charges be dropped against Carly and Janice. 
San Diego, January 20th 2005 – After the SDCPJ rally and the Ground Zero Players Cacelorazo in downtown San Diego, hundreds of people stepped off the sidewalk at Broadway to begin the Reclaim the Streets party. From 7-10pm, people moved up and down 4th ave, circling around, facing off lines of cops, sometimes outmaneuvering them, other times walking right into them traps. Bikers, musicians, jugglers, dancers and more filled the streets with life in direct contrast to the contained commerical atmosphere of clubs and shops all around them. There were four arrests made; all arrestees are out already, with trials pending. 
In the days to come, the United States is going to see the coronation of a President who was elected with so much fraud that both the Senate and the House of Representatives contested his election. Regardless of the illegitimacy of the vote, millions of people absolutely reject the Bush administration and its policies, and many people reject the policies of the Democratic party and the entire system of representative democracy and capitalism. 
Here are a few images of folks i saw along the way. a beautiful day, lots of families and a very good feeling in the air. not as many high school rotcs as the last two years, but still a high percentage of youth of color... always so sad to see such strong, talented, kick ass youth get sucked into the system... everyone really perked up with the peace folks walking by - clapping and thanking marchers. 
Wednesday, January 19th, the San Diego Independent Media Center will present a night of Counter-Inaugural film in opposition to the illegitimate coronation of George W. Bush.
A group of former military officials and civic leaders appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger heads to Oceanside and San Diego next week to ask local leaders for ideas on how to shield local military bases from the next round of closures and cuts.
