Free Trade Proponents Cut Their Losses in Miami!
sdimc,

In Miami yesterday the FTAA decided to cut their losses with a "success" rather than allowing the talks to break down. The agreement that was signed consists of several key points, but each is to be negotiated individually in the future. None of the details that would have led to disagreement were discussed.

In the streets the security forces used oppressive tactics. Hector de la Cerva Mexican Action Network on Free Trade commented that this was one of the most undemocratic protest environments he had ever seen. Riot cops used storm trooper tactics to clear the streets. They shot rubber bullets and tear gas at the protesters. Several protesters were arrested.

Later at a jail solidarity rally, police moved in, dispersed the crowd and then attacked and arrested more activists.

Most Marines Don't Kiss
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Russell Garrett in Diversionary Theatre, San Diego's Queer-themed theatre company, presents ?Another American: Asking and Telling," Marc Wolf's searing, often heart-rending one-performer play about Queers in the military and the effects of the ?don't ask, don't tell" policy, through Saturday, December 6 at 4545 Park Boulevard, 1 1/2 blocks south of Adams Avenue in University Heights. Drawing on the examples of Anna Deveare Smith and Moises Kaufman, Wolf interviewed people involved in the military either as Queer servicemembers, opponents of Queer service and even sociologist Charles Moskos, who thought up the ?don't ask, don't tell" policy and actually coined the phrase. The result was a fast-moving, challenging piece dramatizing 18 characters, all drawn from real life and presented in their own exact words.

The story you won't hear in the corporate media is that increased wildfires are a consequence of global warming. Last week, San Diego had a record breaking heat wave, but this week, newscasters can't seem to put the facts together.
