A Warning ?
Ben,

Where would we really find the principal danger to civil liberty in a republic? Not in the governors as governors, not in the governed as governed, but in the governed unequipped to function as governors. The chief enemies of republican freedom are mental sloth, conformity, bigotry, superstition, credulity, monopoly in the market of ideas, and utter, benighted ignorance. Footnote 1 to ADDERLEY v. FLORIDA, 385 U.S. 39 (1966), JUSTICE DOUGLAS, with whom THE CHIEF JUSTICE, MR. JUSTICE BRENNAN, and MR. JUSTICE FORTAS concur, dissenting.

Griffin Seals Case for WTC Demolition, Calls
Dr. Kevin Barrett, University of Wisconsin,

In two speeches to overflow crowds in New York last weekend, notable theologian David Ray Griffin argued that recently revealed evidence seals the case that the Twin Towers and WTC-7 were destroyed by controlled demolition with explosives. Despite the many enduring mysteries of the 9/11 attacks, Dr. Griffin concluded, "It is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, one very important thing: the destruction of the World Trade Center was an inside job, orchestrated by terrorists within our own government."

Indigenous People's Day Broadcast on radioActive sanDiego
radioActive sanDiego,

Status of Columbus Toppled in Caracas Venezuela, 2004 October 10th is Indigenous People's Day. Some people consider it Columbus Day, but as that is widely considered a celebration of 500 years of genocide, many have reclaimed the day as Indigenous People's Day.

In honor of this day, we will be playing audio recordings of the recent Zapatista Encuentros, brought back from Chiapas Mexico by a member of our collective. The Zapatistas are currently planning a new campaign called La Otra Campaña, or The Other Campaign. At a recent Encuentro, called the First Plenary, members of anti-capitalist organizations from all over Mexico and all over the world gathered to talk about La Otra Campaña.

Updates about La Otra Campaña at Chiapas Indymedia | Official EZLN Website | Radio Insurgente, Mondays at Noon and Tuesdays at 7pm on radioActive sanDiego | Read more at Revista Rebeldía | Statue of Columbus toppled in Caracas, Venezuela, 2004

Independent Media from Houston and New Orleans after the Hurricane
~Bradley c/o Santa Cruz IMC,

lookingdown_9-9-05.jpgOn September 9th, Vinny and I arrived in Houston, Texas along with Blank from Portland, Oregon to provide aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The three of us headed to Houston to help with with independent media, including a low power fm radio station which was being organized for the Astrodome. Upon our arrival in Houston, we learned that the Astrodome emergency radio station was again being blocked from broadcasting information to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

We went to the Astrodome and spoke with people who were willing to speak with us. We listened to their experiences in the past and at the Astrodome. Please visit the following links for audio, photos and written reports published by Vinny, Blank and I.

Reports from Rebel Territory
lotu5, for sd indymedia, w/input from adriana,

Today I start heading home. I'm writing these words for a few reasons. One is to share a bit of the reality of the revolution going on here in Chiapas with you. Another is so that I can remember it all well. Another is to encourage you to come to Chiapas if you think it is for you.

These are some of the words of a San Diego Indymedia journalist who has recently been in Chiapas, Mexico. Traveling, working, and learning about Zapatismo and indigenous autonomy in southern Mexico, you can read his reports and see his photos below.

Another example of Walmart screwing people
bruce,

This is a message from Alderman David Olsen of Jefferson, WI. On Tuesday night, Olsen lost a recall election for his seat on the Common Council. The vote was 880 votes to 815. The recall election was sparked by his vote against a Wal-Mart Supercenter in his hometown of 7,500 residents. This is his story.

DeLay indicted, steps down
bruce,

Finally, one of the myriad corrupting influences has to take a seat. Delay is about as 'evil' as you can get when it comes to the Constitution and liberty. Not that Drier is much better; and note that Drier of one of Ahnold's closest 'advisors';with all that has come out, the new name is 'Republicorrupters' for those is Congress professing to be 'Republican'.

Corporate America now opposes 'free trade'
bruce,

During the debate over the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), the American public heard Corporate America and the Washington, D.C. Establishment extol the virtues of so-called "free" trade. And the mainstream media were complicit by not providing the public with the information needed for rational discourse.

Where does the the farm subsidy money go?
Bruce,

Sixty percent of all farmers and ranchers do not collect government subsidy payments, according to USDA, mostly because the crops and livestock they produce do not qualify for subsidy programs. And yet Cafta,Nafta, etc(meaning the country to country agreements the Government enjoins) do nothing to protect the developing countries farmers from predatory U.S. practices.

100,000 in DC, why not in New Orleans?
repost from neworleans.indymedia.org,

One hundred thousand people. I read the news from Washington DC that one hundred thousand protestors are marching on the capital, sharing a flood of outrage on our faltering King George, who frankly, doesn't care if one hundred million demonstrated. I look at the pictures from the day and I see marches with multitudes of people, smiles and laughter, and creative props, costumes and actions. I'm sure the people who are participating feel empowered and alive.

Hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama. All affected by decades of socio-economic neglect and new super-fueled hurricanes. They are outraged at King George and his jesters who have made a joke out of the word "relief." They care deeply about their lost loved ones, lost homes, and displaced lives. I look through the images of my mind today and I see flooded homes, grim faces, and a children's doll floating face down in the tea colored water.
