Charles,
Following steps toward marriage equality for Lesbians and Gays in San Francisco and Massachusetts George W. Bush announced support for a "Say No to Love" amendment to the US Constitution on Feb. 24, 2004. This is widely seen, even by supporters, as an attempt to shore up W's conservative base.

FINALLY, OUR ANSWER TO BUSH
BiSexual Polar Bear for Rights,
Gay Penguin is a homosexual penguin. He is incapable of speaking, of signing laws and bills, and perhaps even incapable of abstract thought. However, in retrospect, the past four years of American Leadership have been so poor that Gay Penguin would have easily been the best choice for America.
Gay Penguins are coming out. Just recently, two penguins at the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan have celebrated six years of monogamy, and zoo keepers have given them an egg to raise, which hatched succesfully. While Christian Fundamentalists rally around Constitutional Amendments against Gay Marriage, Gay Penguins are proving that God has no problems with Gay Marriage or Gay Adoption.
But what about Gay Penguin as a Presidential Nominee? Why would he do a better job than George W Bush? Gay Penguin could not have signed the PATRIOT ACT, could not have appointed John Ashcroft, could not have invaded a foreign nation, alienated our allies, or embarked on a dangerous and divisive cultural war.
Gay Penguin, at worst, would have kept the Government in stasis. The Kyoto Treaty would stay signed, and America would likely be participating in the International Criminal Court.
The air would be cleaner, fewer jobs would have been lost, and America would not be in the midst of a perpetual war. Osama Bin Laden would still be at large, as he is now. Saddam Hussein's threat to Americans would remain as it is now- non existant!
Imagine a world where America has been ruled by a Gay Penguin since 2000: where would you be?

Civil Rights for Gays? - by Justin Raimondo
Justin Raimondo,
The gay movement used to claim it wanted the government to leave them alone. Now they want government to actively intervene on behalf of themselves as an oppressed minority, while calling for the expansion of state power over nearly every aspect of our lives. The government has become the gay movement's agent of liberation.

US-Appointed Council Abolishes Rights of Iraqi Women
MADRE, c/o Vee,
MADRE, an international women's human rights organization, opposes the imposition of Islamic law on the people of Iraq by the US-appointed Interim Governing Council (IGC). Resolution 137 could give self-appointed religious clerics the authority to inflict grave human rights violations on Iraqi women, including denial of the rights to education, employment, freedom of movement and travel, property inheritance and custody of their children. Forced early marriage, polygamy, compulsory religious dress, wife beating, female genital mutilation, execution by stoning as punishment for female adultery and public flogging of women for disobeying religious rules could all be sanctioned if the Resolution is upheld.

Self-Defense Against Riot Police?
Kirsten Anderberg, c/o lotus,
reposted from http://www.ftaaimc.org/or/2003/12/3346.shtml
What does legal self-defense against riot police look like? Rob Thaxton, in jail in Salem, Or., 8 years, for what seems to be self-defense in Eugene Reclaim the Streets protest. 231 protesters criminally charged in Miami at FTAA protests, 0 cops charged. Prosecutors are friends with cops. Judge in Miami says witnessed 20+ felonies by police with own eyes. No 911 response while we are assaulted by riot police. Tacoma Police Chief rapes you, where do you turn? How do we protect ourselves from police?

MA Same-Sex Marriage Decision Comments
Various (posted by Mark Gabrish Conlan),
On November 18 the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued a landmark ruling stating that nothing in the Massachusetts state constitution allows the state government to offer civil marriage to opposite-sex couples while denying it to same-sex couples. The court gave the Massachusetts legislature 180 days to amend the state's laws to allow Gay and Lesbian couples to marry. Opponents of the decision, including state governor Mitt Romney (a Republican and a Mormon), vowed to amend the Massachusetts constitution to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples -- but under state law they can't actually pas such an amendment until 2006.Full text of the Massachusetts court decision Transcript of ABC-TV Nightline program on the issue, November 18, 2003
