50,000 March in San Diego
Nathan Gibbs,

From the elderly to young children, the marchers dressed in white and waved thousands of American and Mexican flags.

Up to 100,000 Attend Mass Immigration March
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

Front line of march San Diego's largest protest since the Viet Nam war took place Sunday, April 9, when up to 100,000 people jammed the streets to denounce the anti-immigrant bill passed by the House of Representatives and demand "dignity, respect and hope" for both documented and undocumented immigrants. The march was inspiring and festive, but the rally speeches were long on emotional tales of immigrants making good in the U.S. and short on specific demands. Some immigrant-rights activists had criticized the march organizers for not specifically calling for amnesty for the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants currently in the U.S., and had held their own action the day before.

Leslie Feinberg Lecture: brief report back
concerned student,

. Leslie Feinberg spoke earlier today (3/28/2006) on the SDSU campus at 2PM in Hepner Hall 221, as close to 200 students filled the seats, stairs, and floors with eager faces. Leslie talked about his experience as a lesbian / transgender / genderqueer in the struggle for gay liberation and his experience as an activist who relates to the struggles of people of color because it was the right thing to do at the time and still is. Leslie mentioned the inspiration he has received from the large turnouts in Los Angeles and other cities in opposition to the Senssenbrenner bill HR 4437. Leslie ended the speech by addressing the struggle of Pat Washington, who was fired from the Womens Studies Dept in 2002 and has is suing SDSU for discrimination. After most of the audience had gone, a couple of women from the department began their defensive attack against what they felt was Leslie's attack on them.

Riots Erupt in France and Italy
Delete The Border,

France: Student protests over 'Anglo-Saxon' job laws

THOUSANDS of students marched through Paris and blockaded universities across France as their revolt against the Government over a controversial new youth employment law intensified.

Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has staked his reputation, and possibly his job, on a measure that aims to cut rampant youth unemployment with two-year contracts that enable employers to sidestep rigid French labour laws and fire young workers without reason.

From portland Indymedia: On march the 7th, 400.000 people demonstrated against a new law concerning workers, CPE. CPE "deregulates the job market. CPE means e.g. anyone who gets a new job can be fired within 2 years - at any day, without a cause... e.g. companies will now be allowed to let young employees work all night - if they are at least 15... and so on. CPE makes workers lose many of their rights...

All over France riots and Clashes with the police....some protesters heavily injured... In Toulouse protesters managed to occupy states´buildings... 300 pupils stopped a high speed train (TGV)... In Marseille 5000 pupils attacked police and police stations afters some arrests of demonstrators... schools are occupied by teachers and pupils, e.g. le college de france, or a school in Lannion and and and... in Lille states bulindings were occupied...

50 universities are on strike and/or occupied by students:

ITALY: massive riots in Milano

Italy, Milano. Massive riots started in the heart of the Italian financial capitol, Milano, when hundreds of antifascists attacked police because of their repressive behaviour. The police wanted to stop the antifascists from building barricades against a neofascists? march through Milano. Police lost control: Windows of Banks and Companies were broken, cars and buildings were set on fire, even a nail bomb exploded in a group of police men.... Many persons were injured, some heavily, 45 were arrested.

Pat Washington, Ph.D. appeal support
posted by Pat Washington supporter,

When I filed my retaliation complaint against the Women's Studies Department at San Diego State University with the Chancellor's office, SDSU hired an attorney, Nancy Spiezny, to investigate. Spiezny is one of the "civil rights" attorneys SDSU routinely hires to conduct investigations of complaints against the university. Spiezny found evidence of many "troubling" actions against me, but ultimately concluded that "the weight of the evidence did not support my discrimination and retaliation complaint. "

When we challenged her findings, pointing out many of the flaws in her own arguments and evidence that she was taking undue license in explaining away what had happened to me, I came to understand that finding in favor of SDSU represents repeat business for Spiezny, I didn't. The EEOC later investigated and found "reasonable cause" that I had been discriminated and retaliated against and urged SDSU to take corrective action, including promotion and tenure, back-pay, benefits and tenure.

Judge Jay Bloom, who is up for reelection on June 6th, later granted SDSU a summary judgment motion, indicating that it was obvious that my WS colleagues "didn't like me" but that nothing could be done about that in a court of law.

The Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in my case on March 16th at 9am.

U.S. threatens military action against Iran
Sara Flounders,

The script of the Iranian nuclear threat is a rehash of the lead-up to the 2003 criminal invasion of Iraq. At that time every arm of the U.S. and British media gave extensive, daily coverage to charges that Iraq had dangerous weapons of mass destruction, chemical and nuclear. It was all a fraud. The major corporate media went along and endlessly hyped every fabrication, as did the leaders of both political parties. They never admitted what was so obvious after 12 years of relentless war, sanctions and inspections: Iraq had no WMDs.

Demonstrations Grow Against Anti-Immigrant Legislation

The Miami Model @ UCSD, Fri Feb 17th, 7pm Committee for World Democracy Political/Educational Film Series
Center Hall 109 Friday, Feb 17th, 7:00PM
Cost: FREE

THE MIAMI MODEL- In November, 2003, trade ministers from 34 countries met in Miami, Florida, to negotiate the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Thousands of union members, environmentalists, feminists, anarchists, students, farm workers, media activists, and human rights activists who gathered in Miami to struggle against the FTAA were brutally attacked with rubber bullets, pepper spray, electric guns and shock batons, embedded reporters and information warfare, all coordinated by the new United States Department of Homeland Security. Against Capital's model of paramilitary oppression, information warfare, and corporate rule, we offered models of grassroots resistance, creative action and solidarity.

Indymedia Oncampus volunteer Michael Cardenas will be on hand to talk about Indymedia and the filmmaking process behind the Miami Model.

The economic system of production we live in is called capitalism or the free market. We are supposed to be fortunate because we are free to starve to death amidst abundance.
