U.S. threatens military action against Iran
Sara Flounders,

The script of the Iranian nuclear threat is a rehash of the lead-up to the 2003 criminal invasion of Iraq. At that time every arm of the U.S. and British media gave extensive, daily coverage to charges that Iraq had dangerous weapons of mass destruction, chemical and nuclear. It was all a fraud. The major corporate media went along and endlessly hyped every fabrication, as did the leaders of both political parties. They never admitted what was so obvious after 12 years of relentless war, sanctions and inspections: Iraq had no WMDs.

Needed: Flat Panel Monitors, Laptops, Furniture
sd indymedia tech,

As we begin moving into our new downtown media making space, we find ourselves in need of computer hardware and computer furniture. San Diego Indymedia has a new home at Voz Alta downtown on 15th and broadway. In the coming weeks, we plan to install a number of computers to be used for media making and for workshops. Unfortunately, we don't have much room for the computers in the new space, so the computers will have to be setup and taken down frequently and moved around a lot.

So, items we are need to make our new media space are the following things:

- Flat panel monitors
- Laptops
- Rolling computer furniture

If you can donate any of those items, please contact us at imc-sd at lists d0t indymedia d0t org.

Or, if you can donate funds to help us get these items, please use our donate page where you can donate directly with a credit card through paypal.

A flat panel monitor costs about $220 and a laptop can be purchased for about $750-1500.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

"Why We Fight" Opens Today at Ken Cinema
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Eugene Jarecki's "Why We Fight," a powerful documentary on the imperialist agenda that has dominated U.S. foreign policy since the end of World War II, opens today (Friday, February 17) at the Ken Cinema in Kensington. Directed by Eugene Jarecki, the new film begins with former President Eisenhower's famous 1961 warning against "unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex" and shows how that "complex" has become an integral and almost ineradicable part of American society. "Why We Fight" represents a major political advance over Jarecki's previous film, "The Trials of Henry Kissinger" — whereas "Kissinger" was a liberal film, "Why We Fight" is a radical one.

John Francis/The Man Who Wouldn't Talk
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

John Francis, Ph.D. John Francis was a 24-year-old African-American hippie living in Marin County in 1971, when an accident between two oil tankers in San Francisco Bay changed his life. For the next 19 years he embarked on a worldwide odyssey, refusing to use ANY motorized transportation to take responsibility for the world's use of fossil fuels, and spending 17 years without speaking so he would be forced to listen to the world and the people around him. While maintaining his commitment to remain silent and not use motor vehicles, he nonetheless went to three universities and got a Ph.D. in environmental studies, which he later used as an environmental ambassador for the United Nations and an advisor to the U.S. Coast Guard on what to do about oil spills.

The Terrorists’ Veto
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

The current controversy over the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten's commissioning and publication of 12 cartoons depicting and caricaturing Muhammad is proof that the so-called "war on terror" really IS a clash of civilization. Despite the legitimacy of some Muslim grievances against the West (particularly the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine and the U.S. aggression against Iraq), the attack on the cartoons by an organization of 56 Muslim nations and street activists constitutes an attempt to use the threat of terrorism to force Western media to abide by the medieval laws of Islam at its most intolerant. Jyllands-Posten culture editor Flemming Rose is a hero of free speech and the cartoons should be reproduced in all Western media.

"That we will make a collective network of all our particular struggles and resistances. An intercontinental network of resistance against neoliberalism, an intercontinental network of resistance for humanity.

This intercontinental network of resistance, recognising differences and acknowledging similarities, will search to find itself with other resistances around the world. This intercontinental network of resistance will be the medium in which distinct resistances may support one another. This intercontinental network of resistance is not an organising structure; it doesn’t have a central head or decision maker; it has no central command or hierarchies. Tell Big Media,Congress: Hands Off Internet !
bruce,

After destroying TV and radio, mega-media corporations are scheming to control what content you can view and which services you can use online.
Streaming video, Internet phones, podcasting and online games are the future of the Internet. But companies like Verizon, AT&T and Comcast want Congress to let them deliver only their own products at super-high speeds.
