The Notorious Betty Page Fun, but Flawed
E.A. Barrera, Espresso Newspaper, San Diego,
The new film "The Notorious Betty Page" is a fun, noirish flick that lacks a point of seriousness. It is about a "B" movie actress and model who became a cult heroine, but never achieved a serious career.

Urgent Plea for Donations
san diego indymedia,
Do remember typewriter? Carbon copies? Your first mac or PC? What about AOL or Dial-up or how much you paid for these things?!?!
Today, technology is not only a heck of a lot faster but a HELL of a lot cheaper... And it is TIME for the San Diego Independent Media Center to advance. You may have noticed that the San Diego Indymedia site hasn't been very reliable lately... Currently, our primary server's 1996 processor runs at about 360 Megahertz, with a low-quality, faux Pentium 2 processor. It is crashing bi-weekly right now - and exhausting the few collective members who have the time to go and re-boot it. As you know our organization depends on the internet and our website for community participation and to carry out our mission. Without a new server - there ain't gonna be any San Diego Indy Media online.
This is where you come in - for $360, we could get a machine running at 2800 Megahertz and fly into the new millenium!!!! Please click here to donate with a credit card to help us buy a new server:

60 people at 9/11 Discussion w/ Prof. Fetzer
John Frost,
NS 60, as SDSU students call it, was packed. No seat in the lecture room was open and all standing space was taken. This strong showing of interest suggests that San Diegans don't accept the official story of 9/11.
Professor James Fetzer discussed examined the events of 9/11, shedding light on information and analysis that has gained little or no media attention on the major news networks nor in major newspapers.
Due to lack of room, this reporter remained only a short period of time at the event. I plan to attend the event on Saturday when Activist San Diego and Progressive Democratic Alliance present Loose Change 2nd Edition.
What: Loose Change 2nd Edition Showing followed by Discussion
Where: Joyce Beers Community Center (Across from Trader Joe's in Ralph's Hillcrest Shopping Center)
When: Sat. April 8, 2006 - 7:00 pm

Sorry about the outage!
SDIMC volunteer,
This week the SDIMC website has been on and off. It wasn't an April fools joke. We are really sorry because this is an important week in San Diego. Our site has been down due to a combination of old hardware and bad luck. Please keep posting and reading. We'll do our best to keep things working.

Which Conspiracy Do You Believe about 9/11
John Frost,
The media and the current administration have pushed an official conspiracy theory on the people of the United States. With corporate sponsored media in support of such a theory, the public has been bulldozed into believing that Al Qaeda was able to execute an attack on American soil like none done in the past.
Now, a group of activists, academics, common citizens, indy-media reporters, family members of those lost in 9/11, are all calling for the re-opening of the 9/11 case. Join us as we learn more about the events of 9/11 that have people shocked.

"Stoned": The Death of a 1960's Rock Star
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
"Stoned," playing March 31 through April 6 at the Ken Cinema, is a powerful drama about the last days in the life of Brian Jones, founding member of the Rolling Stones rock band, who died in June 1969 one month after the other members of the band fired him. The film focuses on the unlikely friendship between the spaced-out substance-abusing Jones (Leo Gregory) and Frank Thorogood, the 40-something builder who entered his world when the Rolling Stones' management office sent him to remodel Jones's house.

Leslie Feinberg Lecture: brief report back
concerned student,
Leslie Feinberg spoke earlier today (3/28/2006) on the SDSU campus at 2PM in Hepner Hall 221, as close to 200 students filled the seats, stairs, and floors with eager faces. Leslie talked about his experience as a lesbian / transgender / genderqueer in the struggle for gay liberation and his experience as an activist who relates to the struggles of people of color because it was the right thing to do at the time and still is. Leslie mentioned the inspiration he has received from the large turnouts in Los Angeles and other cities in opposition to the Senssenbrenner bill HR 4437. Leslie ended the speech by addressing the struggle of Pat Washington, who was fired from the Womens Studies Dept in 2002 and has is suing SDSU for discrimination. After most of the audience had gone, a couple of women from the department began their defensive attack against what they felt was Leslie's attack on them.

Unknown White Male: Compelling Amnesia Story
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Rupert Murray's new film "Unknown White Male" traces the life of his friend Douglas Bruce in the two years from July 3, 2003 — when Bruce had a mysterious and still-unexplained total memory loss — to mid-2005, and charts the changes in Bruce's personality from a party person to a more serious, reflective, philosophical human being. If the film has a flaw it's that Murray emphasizes the positive aspects of Bruce's transformation over the traumas depicted in such fictional cinematic depictions of amnesia as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (whose director, incidentally, is among those calling "Unknown White Male" a fake). The film is playing through March 23 at the Ken Cinema, 4061 Adams Avenue in Kensington.

The Implausibility of Peace… “Joyeux Noel”
E.A. Barrera, Espresso Newspaper,
The Acadamy Award nominated film "Joyeux Noel" is a depiction of one of the more unique and uplifting moments in the history of war. When for one Christmas Eve, combatents in World War One layed down their arms and remebered - if only briefly - how cruel, wasteful and indecent war is.
