"Kinsey": Brilliant Biopic of Sex Researcher
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Bill Condon's film "Kinsey," released so far in a few major cities and scheduled to open in San Diego this weekend, is a brilliant and worthwhile biopic of pioneering sex researcher Alfred C. Kinsey. Among other things, it vividly dramatizes the battle Kinsey fought against the radical religious Right of his time and is even more important now that people who deny scientific truths about sex, evolution and many other parts of human knowledge are effectively running the U.S.

FCC Continues Its Attack On Community Radio
106.9FM,
The location of the pirate radio station 106.9FM in San Diego, California was visited for the third time by members of the FCC, Wednesday, the 10th of November. Agents entered the property, claiming that they did not need a warrant, to inspect the equipment. Subsequently, they issued a verbal order that the signal be shut down immediately, or the broadcasters would be issued a ten thousand dollar fine. Though it is not the policy of the station to honor the "authority" of the FCC, an un-knowing individual allowed the agents into the location. The station does not plan on further cooperation with the FCC and resumed broadcasting immediately.

Local Activists Protest Falloujah Attacks
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
As U.S. forces and elements of its puppet government in Iraq attacked the holy city of Falloujah this week, San Diego peace activists took to the streets twice, on Wednesday, November 10 and Saturday, November 13 to say no to the attacks and the continuing U.S. occupation of Iraq. Despite heckling from pro-war "Protest Warriors," a diverse group of activists spoke out against the war and, in the Saturday event, staged a peaceful and successful march downtown.

Media Black Out on Vote Fraud Allegations
By DAVID SWANSON,
The "mainstream" media has fallen down on the job by failing to cover efforts since November 2 to ensure that all votes in the presidential election are accurately counted. The conclusion by John Kerry that an investigation could not possibly reverse the election may quite possibly have been premature. But the question that both activists and the media should be asking is not whether there was enough fraud and errors to decide the election, nor even whether there was more than is usual, but whether there was any fraud or errors, where the problems occurred, how they can be prevented in the future, and -- in particular -- whether new kinds of fraud were permitted by new technologies and by the privatization of our election process.

Aljazeera News Station Targeted story
Via Jeff Hook,
Leaning over a large satellite image of the city, Hume and the analyst plotted the two-pronged attack for the national television audience. While pointing to a specific location on the map, the retired general described Aljazeera as a "dirty little propaganda machine for the insurgents" and said, "Last time they showed pictures of civilian causalities; that's not going to happen this time."

TruthNow,
The 2004 Presidential election is NOT over! There's evidence the election may have been "hijacked" by fraud and that Bush has NOT won. A nationwide grassroots movement is underway to uncover the fraud, get the votes counted (or recounted) and file lawsuits, and YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW. Please spread the word, pitch in some volunteer time, help recruit volunteers with legal and/or computer expertise, and consider donating money. Amy Goodman Speaks in San Diego Nov. 5
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
While the estimate of 1,500 in the audience published elsewhere on this Web site seems inflated, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman's first appearance in San Diego Nov. 5 at the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in Hillcrest did more than fill every seat in a 600-seat hall and drew an enthusiastic crowd. Her rambling but intense presentation was mostly a critique of the corporate media and a call for independent journalists and activists to stay committed in the face of the Nov. 2 electoral defeat.

150 March Downtown in "Beyond Voting" Nov. 3
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
A "Beyond Voting" rally and march in San Diego November 3, part of a nationwide mobilization in 36 cities planned before the election and designed to put pressure on whoever won and stress the need for activism rather than relying on the ballot box, drew nearly 150 people for a march from the waterfront to the NBC Channel 39 headquarters at Horton Plaza. Though the mobilizers were nonpartisan the mood at the event was considerably angrier than it would have been if Bush hadn't won.

The Public Stoning of Martha Stewart:
Joyce Walker,
Members of the mainstream press flew into Martha Stewart with more than their usual viciousness following her setting out as a political victim. Having nothing substantial to use against her, they have given negative connotations to her success, mocked the domestic skills upon which she has built her life’s work, twisted what she said and misquoted her, and made hateful remarks that could not have gotten past the editor in the days of ethical media practices. . . .
