Michael Moore, author of the new book Stupid White Men and director of the 1989 hit documentary Roger and Me, came to San Diego March 8 and drew over twice as many people as the lecture hall where he was supposed to speak at the Marston Middle School in Clairemont could hold. So he gave an impromptu, unamplified 40-minute speech to those stranded outside the hall, during which he explained his publishers attempt to censor his book as well as the climate of fear President Bush is instilling in the American people to get them to give up their civil rights for security.

Benjamin Prado, Raza Rights Coalition activist, spoke to the media for the first time March 6, 10 days after he was beaten twice and arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents as he was videotaping their racial profiling of San Diego Trolley passengers at the City College station. Along with his remarks and those of other local activists, the organizers of the press conference distributed 13 minutes of the video footage Prado had shot that day, which documented his first beating as well as the Border Patrols illegally singling out Latino-appearing trolley passengers for queries about their immigration status.
