Dr. Richards, who worked on developing the early HIV antibody tests, explains why they can't actually diagnose HIV "infection" and what a "positive" test result really means for a person's health.

Learn the unpleasant facts about "ANSWER"/"IAC"/"WWP"
N/A,
|
"ANSWER" is the latest incarnation of the classical Marxist Leninist "popular front" strategy of the obscure left political cult known as "Workers World Party." Other names it has used include "International Action Center," "October 22 Coalition," etc. Activists beware. It would better for anti-authoritarian and democratically minded activists to form their own groups, instead of being shepherded by WWP.

Over 100 people an excellent turnout for a street-side rally with limited advance publicity participated in a march and rally in downtown San Diego June 28 sponsored by the local affiliate of International A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism). Held in conjunction with a nationwide protest in Washington, D.C. the next day, the event was announced as a protest against the governments plans to increase the FBIs powers of political surveillance and create a new Department of Homeland Security. But most of the speakers actually discussed current-day political prisoners and abuses by local police in San Diego and National City.

Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
|
Steven Hill, associate director and co-founder of the Center for Voting and Democracy and one of the principal activists behind the recent vote to institute Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) in San Francisco, came to San Diego to speak to a Green Party group at UCSD June 25. He outlined the failures of the American electoral system, the conservative politics it encourages and the ways the U.S. could learn from the experience of other democratic countries with reforms like IRV and proportional representation. Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
|
The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club put its two cents worth into the highly contentious election for the Grossmont Union High School District Governing Board June 27. Having already endorsed Queer-friendly incumbent Ted Crooks, the club added endorsements for the running mates on Crookss slate, Bob Avant and Eve Stine, despite fears from some members that their support for these candidates might be exploited by their radical-Right opponents. My awareness of what is happening started when Sue Skinner wrote me about the Post Office Peace Gathering she started in Astoria, Oregon, population 10,000. They meet each week by the side of a busy highway in front of the post office (they had to fight for that right).
