Breaking Free of the Protest Mentality
NHSS,
|
Protestors are in the classic role of "protestors", people with no real power over their lives so they must demand it from the ruling class. Demonstrations also point to a lack of creativity; the only thing we can come up with is playing the song and dance of our rulers. How much longer will these protests go on for? If we could only get a few more tens of thousands to protest, will we be successful in overthrowing capitalism, the state and wage-slavery? Why do the state, capitalism and wage-slavery exist, why do the governments of the U.S. and Israel do what they do, and what are we actually going to do about it?

FREE MITCHELL CROOKS NOW
ClassWar,
|
Anyone remember the guy named Mitchell Crooks who shot the original video of police brutality against Donovan Jackson? I figure that since none of these issues would be brought to light without this courageous man, I find it very appropriate to approach this subject in a rather angry manner since no one else seems to be.

Oaks Project Presented to S.D. Green Party
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
|
Brad Dre of the Oaks Project made a presentation about this progressive political organization to the San Diego County Green Partys membership meeting on June 30. The Oaks Project, originally founded by two-time Green Party Presidential candidate Ralph Nader and associate Harvey Rosenfeld in 1997, originally applied the principles of multi-level marketing to political activism and required its members to get signatures on the groups initiative petitions and fundraise $1,000 per year for the organization. Todays Oaks Project has reduced the financial obligation to $25 per month and, as a branch of Rosenfelds Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, does legislative lobbying as well as initiatives and works on a wide variety of issues.

Action Network Speakers Look for Ethics in City Government
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
|
Ethics (Or Lack of Same) In San Diego City Government was the title of the San Diego Action Network meeting June 28. After all the invitees from the city, including San Diego Ethics Commission executive director Charles Walker, either declined to attend or didnt return phone calls, the three speakers who did appear veteran community whistle-blower Mel Shapiro and local planning activists Cynthia Conger and John McNab talked about the institutionalized corruption of the downtown business elite that runs San Diego and, in particular, about the massive giveaway of public money and land to well-connected local developer Corky McMillin for a major project at the former Naval Training Center (NTC) site.
