Photo Gallery of January 29 Anti-War Demonstration
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Photo Gallery of January 29 Anti-War Demonstration Protests against the threatened U.S. aggression against Iraq are increasingly being led by people who have served in the military themselves. Not only did a new organization called San Diego Veterans for Peace lead a protest vigil outside Horton Plaza downtown on January 25, but on January 29 the San Diego branches of the International Action Center (IAC) and A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) led a rally outside the Federal Building with speakers who recalled their own military experiences. (article 1)

ACTION ALERT: Support Medical Cannabis Users at City Hall Feb. 4!
San Diego Medical Cannabis Advocates,
ACTION ALERT: Support Medical Cannabis Users at City Hall Feb. 4! The San Diego City Council is scheduled to vote on guidelines for medical marijuana users Tuesday, February 4, 10 a.m. at San Diego City Hall, 202 “C” Street, 12th floor. The guidelines have been designed to protect the rights of medical marijuana users from arbitrary and destructive law enforcement activities by the San Diego Police Department and County Narcotics Task Force. They are facing major opposition from local police, federal agents, local so-called “drug prevention” agencies, and others with a vested interest in sustaining America’s failed “War on Drugs” no matter what the cost in human life and suffering. (Photo of medical user Steve McWilliams taken 9/21/02 © Mark Gabrish Conlan for Zenger's Newsmagazine.)

Robin Scovill’s Film “The Other Side of AIDS” at San Diego Feb. 4 H.E.A.L. Queer Democrats Endorse Kehoe for State Senate — As Expected
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
Queer Democrats Endorse Kehoe for State Senate — As Expected The primary election for California’s 39th State Senate District isn’t until March 2004, but the predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club has already endorsed openly Lesbian Assemblymember and former San Diego City Councilmember Christine Kehoe over fellow Assemblymember Howard Wayne for the Democratic nomination. In fact, there was so little doubt about the endorsement that Wayne conceded well before the January 23 club meeting at which it was debated and told the San Diego Union-Tribune, “What’s the point? It’s a foregone conclusion that since their reason for existence is to elect Lesbians, they’re going to endorse Chris. I can’t imagine any other outcome.” Kehoe pointed out at the meeting that the club has endorsed hundreds of candidates, only a few of them Queer.

William Pepper Calls Martin Luther King’s Murder an “Execution”
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
William Pepper Calls Martin Luther King’s Murder an “Execution” William Pepper, close friend and associate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the last year of King’s life, has devoted the last quarter-century of his own life to investigating and documenting the conspiracy responsible for what he calls the “execution” of King. He spoke in San Diego at Current Affairs Bookstore January 28, 2003 and outlined his reasons for believing there was a conspiracy to kill King, his attempts to secure justice for the King family and accused King assassin James Earl Ray (who died in prison in 1998) and his continuing belief in King’s anti-racist, anti-war and anti-capitalist ideals.
