The San Diego Democratic Club, whose basic mission is to expand the civil rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people, took a dramatic stand on an issue far from their usual preoccupations at their February 27 meeting when they unanimously endorsed a campaign to pass a Living Wage Ordinance (LWO) in San Diego. Openly Lesbian City Councilmember Toni Atkins spoke and said she is strongly in favor of the LWO and wants to work with the club to mobilize and win the votes of four other Councilmembers to pass it locally.

On February 28 the San Diego Action Network hosted a forum with four young activists Paul Dana of Activist San Diego and the San Diego Sierra Club, Carolyn Wilcher of the San Diego Independent Media Center and the San Diego Free Press newspaper, Jeff Graves of San Diego Anarchist Black Cross and Sid Martinez of Youth for International Socialism who discussed how they developed their politics, how they mobilized others their age and how they dealt with patronizing attitudes from older people.
