The four candidates running in the March 5 election for San Diego County District Attorney seven-year incumbent Paul Pfingst, deputy district attorney Mark Pettine, judge Bonnie Dumanis and private attorney Mike Aguirre met at a candidates forum January 24 at the Malcolm X Library. Though police shootings, the three-strikes law and child-support policies were among the substantive issues debated, the biggest issue was Pfingst himself and the culture of corruption his challengers say hes allowed to infect the D.A.s office.

Over 100 demonstrators greeted controversial talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger when she came to the Borders bookstore at San Diegos Mission Valley mall Sunday, January 20 for a book signing. Most of the demonstrators were Queer and Queer-friendly activists there to protest her denunciation of Gays and Lesbians as biological errors, though a few radical-Right activists also turned out to defend her. Among the protestors was Clayton Tschudy, a Gay Borders employee who quit his job in protest against the companys decision to invite her.

Complete transcript of an interview with Clayton Tschudy, former employee of Borders at the Mission Valley mall in San Diego, who quit his job to protest the stores decision to host controversial talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger for a book signing January 20. The interview was conducted just before Tschudy and the public-policy committee of the San Diego Lesbian and Gay Mens Community Center led a demonstration against the Dr. Laura event that drew over 60 people, plus about 30 counterdemonstrators supporting Dr. Laura. On her show Dr. Laura once referred to being Gay or Lesbian as a biological error that inhibits you from relating normally to the opposite sex.
