Building Community Through Technology
,

San Diego Indymedia San Diego Indymedia, in our effort to create/build/sustain radical community in San Diego, is announcing two new features of our website. One is our new Radical/Progressive Guide to San Diego, a list of radical spaces and places to shop in San Diego. If you're new to San Diego, or if you've been here for a while, or if you're just looking for a place to put up some flyers for your cool new project, check it out.

Another new feature of San Diego Indymedia is our blogwire, in the right column where the newswire goes. This is still in development, so it may behave strangely, but it seems pretty ready to use. We're collecting a list of radical, progressive and generally lefty bloggers in San Diego and aggregating them onto our site. If you'd like your blog added, first see our blogwire policy and then email us.

lotu5,

Common Ground Health Clinic A team of students from UCSD is headed to New Orleans to Louisiana to volunteer with the Common Ground Health Clinic. They will be on campus, on library walk, taking donations all week. Below is a message I received from them this week.

About Common Ground: Common Ground Collective formed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, to provide immediate aid and long-term solidarity along the Gulf Coast. We are a local, community-run organization offering mutual aid and support to New Orleans communities that have been historically neglected and underserved. Common Ground's teams of volunteers include: medical and health providers, aid workers, community organizers, legal representatives and people from all over with broad skills from all walks of life.

End the Genocide in Sudan
Tara Ramanathan,

The government of Sudan has been arming Arab militias to organize the mass killing of tens of thousands of Black Africans. Several oil companies are the ones making this genocide possible by paying the Sudanese government for oil. UCSD as well as many other universities are invested in these oil companies and thus, are supporting the genocide. We need to urge UCSD to withdraw its investments from these oil companies.

Racist Profiling Announcements at UCSD
campus anarchist,

I got this announcement in my inbox today. It's very disturbing. Apparently we're all supposed to be on the lookout for a 35 year old hispanic male with a backpack on campus at ucsd and report any sighting of such people to campus police?! This is a clear example of racial profiling, and a disturbing example of campus police trying to encourage people to report on each other?! What kind of environment are they trying to create here?

Student Run TV to be shut down Wed
repost from UCSD Guardian,

The months-long debate over free speech and broadcast decency came to a head late last week, when angry student leaders ordered administrators to pull the plug on Student-Run Television, taking the station off the air. “This is the last place I wanted to be tonight,” said a visibly upset A.S. Vice President Finance Greg Murphy shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 3, minutes after making the call to Triton Cable operators to cut the station’s signal and after angry SRTV members confronted him outside of the station’s office.

A Call For Unification!
Justin Gilmore, Ryan Wirt,

In contemporary America, disunification, or splintering, has rendered the left ineffective. Such has long served as the eulogy of leftist movements and ideas within the states. The problem has worsened in recent years, and has thus led to a lifeless decay in the strength of all real progressive actions. Clearly, this has given way to today’s breed of libertarian rightists, neo-conservatism, and many other crypto-fascist uprisings. Disintegration, lack of solidarity, and a true misunderstanding of who/what the real enemy is, has led to the recent polarization of our movements.

Announcing Indymedia On Campus
San Diego Indymedia,

San Diego Indymedia is starting a new project called Indymedia On Campus to provide more coverage of Campus issues and activism and also to encourage more university participation in Indymedia. San Diego Indymedia is a grassroots organization committed to using media production and distribution as a tool for promoting social and economic justice in San Diego County.

There are lots of hot stories going on at UCSD, SDSU, USD and City College. At SDSU campus activists are protesting military recruiters and fighting oppression by campus cops. Students in all parts of the county face higher fees and the loss of quality programs. At UCSD SPECFLIC happens tomorrow and SRTV is in danger of being shut down. We'll be doing coverage of SPECFLIC and radioActive sanDiego will be broadcasting it live.
