Are Cops Like Bulls?
Kirsten Anderberg,

Picture of Miami overkill at FTAA riots, Nov 2003 (FTAA Indy Media) This article explores a comment made to one of my articles, by "Officer Friendly," that said about police violence at protests, "If you mess with the bull, you get the horns, you know what I mean?" I began to compare the bull and the police...

Self-Defense Against Riot Police?
Kirsten Anderberg, c/o lotus,

reposted from  http://www.ftaaimc.org/or/2003/12/3346.shtml

What does legal self-defense against riot police look like? Rob Thaxton, in jail in Salem, Or., 8 years, for what seems to be self-defense in Eugene Reclaim the Streets protest. 231 protesters criminally charged in Miami at FTAA protests, 0 cops charged. Prosecutors are friends with cops. Judge in Miami says witnessed 20+ felonies by police with own eyes. No 911 response while we are assaulted by riot police. Tacoma Police Chief rapes you, where do you turn? How do we protect ourselves from police?

Law School as Revenge
Kirsten Anderberg,

I went to law school as revenge. Why do you think they had riots when the first black man tried to enter Univ. of Miss.? Why did they not let women into Notre Dame law school until 1968? Access to education is kept from the masses, so go to school as revenge.

The Information Wars Have Begun
lotus,

we sieze In the United States, the FBI is raiding homes for videotapes and computers containing contraband information, detaining people indefinitely for not divulging their personal information, and arresting people for illegally spreading information. The information wars are raging around us. In Venezuela, the media played a major role in overturning the US backed coup.

This week the UN World Summit on the Information Society takes place from December 10th-12th, 2003. As the heads of governments decide how to further restrict the flow of information to allow them to retain control, people are meeting in their own democratic, self-organized counter summit, WSIS, We Seize!.

Topics covered in the forum include migrant workers and the information society, the link between freedom of communication and freedom of movement, and autonomous media. Videos shown will include the documentary "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" and a film on infowar techniques used in Miami.

There will be live audio and video streams from the conference, and you can participate in the forums online, via chat rooms.

Update 2003/12/09 :: The polymedia lab, where many of the We Seize events were being worked on, was raided by the Geneva police this morning. They are currently looking for a new physical location.

New Counterpunch Article Covers Sherman Austin and San Diego Raids
MERLIN CHOWKWANYUN, c/o lotus,

sherman austin
On Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, Sherman Martin Austin began serving one year in federal prison under terms of a plea agreement for which he was sentenced on Aug. 4, 2003.

Austin, the 20-year-old African-American founder and former webmaster of the anarchist website www.raisethefist.com, pleaded guilty to "distribution" of information about making or using explosives with the "intent" that the information "be used for, or in furtherance of, an activity that constitutes a Federal crime of violence." Such was deemed illegal under a relatively obscure federal statute, 18 U.S.C. 842 (p)(2)(A), pushed through Congress by Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein in the late 1990s. The offending material, which Austin repeatedly has emphasized he did not author, was housed on an isolated section of Austin's web server, and a small portion of it contained amateurish instructions on how to assemble simple explosives.

Two Arrested in Grocery Strike Support Demo
Mark Gabrish Conlan and Charles Nelson,

A November 15 demonstration called in support of striking workers at the Vons and Albertson's supermarkets turned into a confrontation with San Diego police when two representatives of the sponsoring organizations, Pete Reilly of San Diego A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) and Jeremy Prickett of the California Coalition Against Poverty (CCAP), were arrested shortly after the march stepped off. Protesters assembled at the Oregon Street Park between Polk and Howard Streets in North Park at 11:30 a.m. for a preliminary rally, then spilled out in the streets as the march began.
