URGENT CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR ATENCO!!!
Celula ComunistArte-Mundial y Permanente,
It is urgent that everyone movilizes in support of the people of Atenco. As you may know the situation in Mexico is terrible, it seems like we are living under a police-state terror dictatorship. Those of us who have been activists or militants for many years have never felt such a sense of danger as we feel today. There are hundreds of people in prison, many women have been raped and several have been "dissapeared" by the government. We urge you to movilize and demand the liberation of all political prisoners, and the end to the generalized attack against all of those who are resisting the dictatorship. Go to the Mexican consulates, make flyers, anything. This is a call to all of those who movilized for immigrant rights, for all of those who support human rights, to all of those within the left. The situation is critical.
An Injury Against One is An Injury Against All!
Free All Political Prisoners, Now!

Veteran Queer Leathermen Speak on S/M
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
Veteran Leathermen Lonnie Cothron and Don Kandis spoke to the San Diego League of Gentlemen May 6 and talked about their experiences in the Leather-S/M community, including their participation in "Spanking Clubs." Cothron knew some of the pioneers in founding the modern Queer movement in L.A. and talked about the early years, and both men corrected the common misperception that S/M is exclusively about sex. Often, they said, it's simply a form of male-bonding and the emotions it raises are parental as or more often than they are romantic.

Protest held yesterday at Mexican Consulate
Bob,
20 adherents of la otra campaña protested yesterday at the Mexican consulate in dowtown sandiego to support vendors in Texcoco.
The protest began yesterday at 3PM with at least 20 adherents of the EZLN's la otra campaña in front of the Mexican consulate located at India St. and Cedar in downtown San Diego. The protesters arrived to show support and solidarity for a group of flower producers in the town of Atenco, who have been subjected to repeated intimidation, injury, and murder, after trying to continue operating in a marketplace that has been sold to become a Wal-Mart. The EZLN issued a red alert calling on all supporters to take action and let the Mexican government know the we support the workers. According to the san diego indymedia article, PROTEST AT THE MEXICAN CONSULATE, San Diego (see http://sandiego.indymedia.org/en/2006/05/115596.shtml ) "The leadership of the Atenco movement has been brutally beaten and incarcerated along with hundreds of their supporters, several have been killed."

Justice for Jake
Kevin Grossman, Rocky Neptun, sdimc volunteer,
On April 4, 2005 Jacob Faust was murdered by sdpd officer Stephen Holliday. On April 4, 2006, about 75 of his family, friends and supporters met in the rain at the Golden West Hotel, the site of the shooting, and marched to sdpd headquarters to remember Jake, express their outrage and demand justice.
Report from a Friend:
"yesterday i stood in protest in the pouring rain holding a sign that said 'SDPD officers holliday and keaton are lying'. i stood next to my friends, my comrades, in this quest to find answers, truth and some sort of justice for jacob and his family. i walked in the pouring rain with amy and lynn to the police station where we stood, half facing the street for the passersby to read what our signs said, and half facing the windows of the police station so that san diego would know that we weren't going to let them silence us."
http://sandiego.indymedia.org/es/2006/04/114984.shtml
Report from an Activist:
"The cold raindrops washed at salty tears. A mother’s wounded eyes, still swirling with shock and grief on this - the first anniversary of her son’s execution for making an illegal left turn. Friends and fellow artists held signs of protest, their anger raw; dressed in black, smooth faces twisted in anguish, quavering voices, stunted attempts at understanding the bestiality of a rogue cop."

New Grand Jury Convened in SF
indybay, reposted by sd indymedia,
SF Grand Jury Targets G8 Protest & Independent Journalist - Yet another Federal Grand Jury in San Francisco targeting local activists has been convened. This time the apparent reason for the Grand Jury is to investigate the anti-G8 solidarity protest held in the Mission District of San Francisco on July 8, 2005, during which a local police officer was injured. Charges against three people in connection with the protest are pending in San Francisco Superior Court. Independent journalist and videographer Josh Wolf, a frequent poster to Indybay, has been subpoenaed to testify and to provide any notes taken and the full and unedited videotape recorded during the demonstration. The National Lawyers Guild is representing Josh Wolf and has filed a motion to quash the subpoena on several grounds including First Amendment journalistic protections and that the FBI is on an illegal "fishing expedition" aimed at aiding the separate local investigation by San Francisco police and prosecutors. On March 30th, a press conference was held on the steps of the San Francisco Federal Building before the hearing on quashing the subpoena. A written decision on the motion will be delivered at a later date. Josh Wolf urges people "to talk to your friends and neighbors about how the grand jury system (is) a vicious unconstitutional implementation of the law that is being used for political purposes." Leslie Feinberg Lecture: brief report back
concerned student,
Leslie Feinberg spoke earlier today (3/28/2006) on the SDSU campus at 2PM in Hepner Hall 221, as close to 200 students filled the seats, stairs, and floors with eager faces. Leslie talked about his experience as a lesbian / transgender / genderqueer in the struggle for gay liberation and his experience as an activist who relates to the struggles of people of color because it was the right thing to do at the time and still is. Leslie mentioned the inspiration he has received from the large turnouts in Los Angeles and other cities in opposition to the Senssenbrenner bill HR 4437. Leslie ended the speech by addressing the struggle of Pat Washington, who was fired from the Womens Studies Dept in 2002 and has is suing SDSU for discrimination. After most of the audience had gone, a couple of women from the department began their defensive attack against what they felt was Leslie's attack on them.

Environmental activist Rod Coronado arrested for "teaching and demonstrating" at a 2003 San Diego lecture
arizona indymedia, reposted by sd indymedia volunteer,
Tucson environmental activist Rod Coronado was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his workplace by agents with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). The arrest is in connection with a Grand Jury indictment in San Diego charging Coronado with "teaching and demonstrating" to others how to commit arson at a lecture he gave August 1, 2003 in San Diego . According to the FBI press release, Coronado "taught and demonstrated the making and use of a destructive device, with the intent that the device be used to commit arson" at a public gathering in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Three animal rights activists in San Diego were jailed for contempt of court in 2005 for refusing to testify in the secret Grand Jury investigation. Coronado is not charged with setting a fire 15 hours before his lecture that caused $50 million in damages and destroyed a large apartment complex under construction in the University Towne Center area of San Diego. Neighbors observed that ATF agents searched his home in the Dunbar Spring neighborhood for several hours. Coronado’s arrest is the latest in the string of arrests across the country related to environmental and animal rights related actions. CWD Presents The Miami Model at UCSD Friday

Committee for World Democracy Political/Educational Film Series
Center Hall 109 Friday, Feb 17th, 7:00PM
Cost: FREE
THE MIAMI MODEL- In November, 2003, trade ministers from 34 countries met in Miami, Florida, to negotiate the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Thousands of union members, environmentalists, feminists, anarchists, students, farm workers, media activists, and human rights activists who gathered in Miami to struggle against the FTAA were brutally attacked with rubber bullets, pepper spray, electric guns and shock batons, embedded reporters and information warfare, all coordinated by the new United States Department of Homeland Security. Against Capital's model of paramilitary oppression, information warfare, and corporate rule, we offered models of grassroots resistance, creative action and solidarity.
Indymedia Oncampus volunteer Michael Cardenas will be on hand to talk about Indymedia and the filmmaking process behind the Miami Model.

Goodbye, Privacy and Freedom
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
The revelation that the Bush administration subpoenaed four Internet search engines — Yahoo, Microsoft, AOL and Google — demanding records of the Net searches made by one million clients for one week, and the fact that all these companies except Google complied, is just the latest in the current administration's relentless assault on the very idea of a right to privacy. Coupled with the administration's blatant flouting of the law in ordering wiretaps on U.S. citizens, and the likelihood that Americans will accept this latest invasion of their privacy as necessary to fight the "war on terror" successfully, these are just further steps in the abolition of America's constitutional republic and its replacement with a neo-fascist Presidential dictatorship.
