Riots Erupt in France and Italy
Delete The Border,

France: Student protests over 'Anglo-Saxon' job laws THOUSANDS of students marched through Paris and blockaded universities across France as their revolt against the Government over a controversial new youth employment law intensified. Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has staked his reputation, and possibly his job, on a measure that aims to cut rampant youth unemployment with two-year contracts that enable employers to sidestep rigid French labour laws and fire young workers without reason. From portland Indymedia: On march the 7th, 400.000 people demonstrated against a new law concerning workers, CPE. CPE "deregulates the job market. CPE means e.g. anyone who gets a new job can be fired within 2 years - at any day, without a cause... e.g. companies will now be allowed to let young employees work all night - if they are at least 15... and so on. CPE makes workers lose many of their rights... All over France riots and Clashes with the police....some protesters heavily injured... In Toulouse protesters managed to occupy states´buildings... 300 pupils stopped a high speed train (TGV)... In Marseille 5000 pupils attacked police and police stations afters some arrests of demonstrators... schools are occupied by teachers and pupils, e.g. le college de france, or a school in Lannion and and and... in Lille states bulindings were occupied... 50 universities are on strike and/or occupied by students:
ITALY: massive riots in Milano
Italy, Milano. Massive riots started in the heart of the Italian financial capitol, Milano, when hundreds of antifascists attacked police because of their repressive behaviour. The police wanted to stop the antifascists from building barricades against a neofascists? march through Milano. Police lost control: Windows of Banks and Companies were broken, cars and buildings were set on fire, even a nail bomb exploded in a group of police men.... Many persons were injured, some heavily, 45 were arrested. Technorati tags: strike, antifascist, milan, italy, students, france, joblaw, riot, race, racism

Dr. Pat Washington is an internationally known and widely acclaimed scholar, award winning professor and 3 time Teacher of the Year fired by San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2002. She filed a lawsuit in 2003, asserting that her termination was retaliation for her complaint about a racially hostile work environment. Despite an EEOC finding of 'reasonable cause' that SDSU discriminated and retaliated against Dr. Washington, SDSU was granted summary judgement in the case last year. Oral arguments in appellate court will be heard thursday at 9AM, with a second press conference to follow.
Please come support Pat Washington at 8AM Tbursday!

Pat Washington, Ph.D. appeal support
posted by Pat Washington supporter,
When I filed my retaliation complaint against the Women's Studies Department at San Diego State University with the Chancellor's office, SDSU hired an attorney, Nancy Spiezny, to investigate. Spiezny is one of the "civil rights" attorneys SDSU routinely hires to conduct investigations of complaints against the university. Spiezny found evidence of many "troubling" actions against me, but ultimately concluded that "the weight of the evidence did not support my discrimination and retaliation complaint. "
When we challenged her findings, pointing out many of the flaws in her own arguments and evidence that she was taking undue license in explaining away what had happened to me, I came to understand that finding in favor of SDSU represents repeat business for Spiezny, I didn't. The EEOC later investigated and found "reasonable cause" that I had been discriminated and retaliated against and urged SDSU to take corrective action, including promotion and tenure, back-pay, benefits and tenure.
Judge Jay Bloom, who is up for reelection on June 6th, later granted SDSU a summary judgment motion, indicating that it was obvious that my WS colleagues "didn't like me" but that nothing could be done about that in a court of law.
The Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in my case on March 16th at 9am.

U.S. threatens military action against Iran
Sara Flounders,
The script of the Iranian nuclear threat is a rehash of the lead-up to the 2003 criminal invasion of Iraq. At that time every arm of the U.S. and British media gave extensive, daily coverage to charges that Iraq had dangerous weapons of mass destruction, chemical and nuclear. It was all a fraud. The major corporate media went along and endlessly hyped every fabrication, as did the leaders of both political parties. They never admitted what was so obvious after 12 years of relentless war, sanctions and inspections: Iraq had no WMDs.

Cost: FREE
THE MIAMI MODEL- In November, 2003, trade ministers from 34 countries met in Miami, Florida, to negotiate the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Thousands of union members, environmentalists, feminists, anarchists, students, farm workers, media activists, and human rights activists who gathered in Miami to struggle against the FTAA were brutally attacked with rubber bullets, pepper spray, electric guns and shock batons, embedded reporters and information warfare, all coordinated by the new United States Department of Homeland Security. Against Capital's model of paramilitary oppression, information warfare, and corporate rule, we offered models of grassroots resistance, creative action and solidarity.
Indymedia Oncampus volunteer Michael Cardenas will be on hand to talk about Indymedia and the filmmaking process behind the Miami Model.

Execution of Stanley "Tookie" Williams
duko,
Stanley “Tookie” Williams, co-founder of the Crip street gang in Los Angeles, was executed in San Quentin Prison on December 13 just after midnight.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger coldly and callously refused to grant him clemency, saying that “the facts do not justify overturning the court decision.” Even though Tookie Williams had changed and became a very outspoken advocate against gang violence and for peace. They showed him no mercy. But it is deeper than this. In a highly political statement, Schwarzenegger also said that Tookie Williams' 1998 book Life In Prison was “dedicated to people like Assata Shakur, Mumia Abu Jamal” and particularly “Black militant George Jackson” which, according to Schwarzenegger, “is a significant indicator that Williams is not reformed and that he still sees violence and lawlessness as legitimate means to address societal problems.”

Stanley Tookie Williams, Killed by the State of California
repost from indymedia.us,
Stanley Tookie Williams III was executed early this morning by lethal injection administered by the state of California. Williams, who was weeks from his 52nd birthday, is said to have been a co-founder of the Crips gang in Los Angeles. In 1981, he was convicted of the 1979 murders of four people in the Los Angeles area. After 6.5 years in solitary confinement on Death Row at San Quentin, he renounced his past gang affiliation. He wrote several books and started programs to discourage youth from joining gangs. A film starring Jamie Foxx entitled "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story," was made to tell his story. Williams never admitted to having committed the murders for which he was convicted. This was one reason that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger cited for denying him clemency. Supporters of Williams tried to submit issues to various legal bodies in hopes of being granted a stay of execution. If a 60-day stay had been granted, it would have given time for courts to examine the legal issues that are outstanding in the case. It would have also given California's legislative bodies a chance to vote on AB 1121, the California Moratorium on Executions Act. Read more

ISO Discusses "Tookie" Williams’ Case
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,
Stanley “Tookie” Williams, co-founder of the notorious Crips street gang turned anti-gang activist and children’s book writer in prison, is scheduled to be put to death through lethal injection on Tuesday, December 13. The only person who can spare him this fate is California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who alone has the power to pardon him or commute his sentence to life imprisonment. This was the subject of two community events in San Diego, a public forum November 30 and a meeting of the International Socialist Organization (ISO) at San Diego State University December 1, featuring some of the same speakers.
