Over 200 turn out to Demand that San Diego Count Every Vote
lotus at indymedia dot org,

An energetic, diverse crowd of over 200 people turned out Sunday to demand that every vote be counted, in the Mayoral and Presidential elections. One speaker mentioned how he had volunteered for the recount and for ballots containing only an X or a check for Dick Murphy, the votes were counted and filled in by vote counters, while for the 5,547 votes containing the name "Donna Frye" and no bubble, the votes were not counted. Dick Murphy's victory was with a margin of 2,108 votes.

The speakers also talked about how the bubble law is a state law that's being used to override local law, and how the city council has the ability to "become a judge" and count every vote. Also, a petition was passed around for the local election and also to demand that Barbara Boxer be the one Senator to contest the electoral college vote which is to be certified on January 6th. A number of members of the House of Representatives have agreed to help contest the vote, but no Senator has come forward, just as in 2000.

More info at Indybay.org | Contest The Vote.org | VOTERR.org

UPDATE: 1/3 5:36pm - A sit-in took place at Barbara Boxer's office to demand that she block the certification of the Electoral College votes. This action will continue tomorrow. More here

Christ Mass: The Birth of Human Rights
Clint Clark,

-- Christians all over the world tonight will celebrate the Birth of Human Rights, without knowing it. Seventy years after Spartacus, Human Rights were born. These new Human Rights were born of the humble Jewish Worker Bees, and not of the Jewish Ruling Class, the elite Levites of the Second Temple Period in Jerusalem.

CCDC stops homeless feeedings for holidays
lotus,

The Centre City Development Corp., San Diego's downtown redevelopment agency, had notified the Salvation Army this month that it needed a conditional-use permit to continue serving meals.

In response to the agency, and to concerns about loitering and littering outside its offices on E Street, the charity decided to drop the religious services where breakfast and dinner were offered Monday through Thursday. The last services were Dec. 14. That suspension prompted yesterday's vigil.

RALLY FOR COUNTING ALL THE VOTES
Thursday Dec. 23, 2004 2:00PM
202 'C' Street San Diego Downtown Civic Center Plaza.
Come out and support the 5,000+ voters that have been disinfranchised by a bubble. More than 5,000 voters can't be ignored!
From the Voters for Donna Frye and the Supporters of Democracy

From Twin Cities IMC:Stolen Election-Lost Democracy: Report From Ohio

The evidence is mounting that this election, just as the last one, had been stolen. What makes this one even more stunning is the brazen nature in which it had been stolen. Add to this the nature of how it had been stolen, with the possible use of manipulated machines as well as the silence from the media and the leadership of the Democratic Party. Many observers have noted the common feeling that the democratic process is slipping away right in front of us.

In Memoriam: Gary Webb
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine ,

Investigative reporter and author Gary Webb was found dead in his home in the Sacramento area on December 10, 2004, of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The obituaries in the Los Angeles Times and other mainstream papers largely continued the character assassination that had plagued him during the last eight years of his life. In this article, based on Webb's appearance in San Diego in September 1998, he talked about what he said — and didn't say — about the CIA/contras/crack cocaine connections.

Same-Sex Marriage Fight Continues in S.D.
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

Extending civil marriage to Gay and Lesbian couples in the U.S. may have looked like a dead issue after November 2, but marriage equality activists and Gay and Lesbian couples themselves are not giving up. As part of a statewide campaign, Marriage Equality California (MECA) put on an event at San Diego State University December 6 that included films and speakers about the issue, clearly meant to rally the troops and mobilize grass-roots campaigns around two bills recently introduced into the California legislature.

Big Media Censors Queer-Accepting Church
posted by Mark Gabrish Conlan,

The letter from CBS rejecting the UCC ad The United Church of Christ (UCC) attempted to put an ad on the major TV networks advertising their church as Queer-friendly and were censored because the ads were allegedly "advocacy" and "controversial." As Carlsbad UCC pastor Rev. Madison Shockley argues below, this not only denies his church the right to advertise its believe but leaves the anti-Queer radical religious Right as the ONLY "Christian" voice permitted or tolerated by corporate media.

Jensen Attacks "Liberal Hawks" @ 1st Unitarian Universalist Church
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

University of Texas media law, ethics and politics professor Robert Jensen called his talk November 18 at the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in Hillcrest “Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Reclaim Our Humanity.” But instead of a how-to manual on surviving four more years of the Bush administration, Jensen’s talk was a forceful attack on “liberal hawks” and Americans’ view of their country as morally superior.

"Kinsey": Brilliant Biopic of Sex Researcher
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Bill Condon's film "Kinsey," released so far in a few major cities and scheduled to open in San Diego this weekend, is a brilliant and worthwhile biopic of pioneering sex researcher Alfred C. Kinsey. Among other things, it vividly dramatizes the battle Kinsey fought against the radical religious Right of his time and is even more important now that people who deny scientific truths about sex, evolution and many other parts of human knowledge are effectively running the U.S.

FCC Continues Its Attack On Community Radio
106.9FM,

The location of the pirate radio station 106.9FM in San Diego, California was visited for the third time by members of the FCC, Wednesday, the 10th of November. Agents entered the property, claiming that they did not need a warrant, to inspect the equipment. Subsequently, they issued a verbal order that the signal be shut down immediately, or the broadcasters would be issued a ten thousand dollar fine. Though it is not the policy of the station to honor the "authority" of the FCC, an un-knowing individual allowed the agents into the location. The station does not plan on further cooperation with the FCC and resumed broadcasting immediately.

Local Activists Protest Falloujah Attacks
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Freedom? As U.S. forces and elements of its puppet government in Iraq attacked the holy city of Falloujah this week, San Diego peace activists took to the streets twice, on Wednesday, November 10 and Saturday, November 13 to say no to the attacks and the continuing U.S. occupation of Iraq. Despite heckling from pro-war "Protest Warriors," a diverse group of activists spoke out against the war and, in the Saturday event, staged a peaceful and successful march downtown.
