Attorney Randall Hamud spoke at the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in Hillcrest January 11 on his new book, "Osama bin Laden: America's Enemy in His Own Words." The book consists of 20 statements by bin Laden with prefaces and summaries by Hamud and footnotes to explain the historical references bin Laden made. The excerpts were translated by scholars who chose to remain anonymous because their ability to fly back and forth from the U.S. to their families in the Middle East might be jeopardized if their connection with this project became known. In his talk, Hamud said that virtually everything the U.S. has done in the so-called "war on terror," from declaring it a "crusade" to invading Iraq, has played into bin Laden's hands and increased his popular appeal among Arabs and Muslims worldwide.

Oskar Torres, actor and screenwriter whose remarkable personal story formed the basis of the film "Innocent Voices," came to San Diego December 30 to introduce the film at a showing sponsored by Activist San Diego to raise money for Salvadoran textile workers. The film tells the story of Chava, an 11-year-old boy growing up in El Salvador during that country's civil war in the 1980's and trying to avoid being kidnapped and forced to serve in the U.S.-backed military against a popular armed struggle.

The only lap dance club to ever be investigated by the FBI under the Patriot Act.....'Bob O'Brien' appears to be the 'brains' behind this massive Nasdaq and OTCBB fraud.Besides the lap dance club address the only other address we have is a Wells Fargo Bank account that solicits donations to fund their ongoing fraud and has received contributions from both Patrick Byrne of Utah whose daddy is an insurance billionaire no doubt well versed in offshore activities and a 'James Davidson' according to a Yahoo message board post of June 2 by 'Bob O'Brien' when he was getting very nervous that Jesse Eisinger of Wall Street Journal was narrowing in on his scam.

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) vehemently opposes the anti-immigrant Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005 (HR 4437), which has been introduced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI). This bill does little to address the root causes of migration to the United States, or the underlying social and economic conditions of both legal and undocumented workers.

Stanley “Tookie” Williams, co-founder of the notorious Crips street gang turned anti-gang activist and children’s book writer in prison, is scheduled to be put to death through lethal injection on Tuesday, December 13. The only person who can spare him this fate is California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who alone has the power to pardon him or commute his sentence to life imprisonment. This was the subject of two community events in San Diego, a public forum November 30 and a meeting of the International Socialist Organization (ISO) at San Diego State University December 1, featuring some of the same speakers.
