Environmental activist Rod Coronado arrested for "teaching and demonstrating" at a 2003 San Diego lecture
arizona indymedia, reposted by sd indymedia volunteer,

Tucson environmental activist Rod Coronado was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his workplace by agents with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). The arrest is in connection with a Grand Jury indictment in San Diego charging Coronado with "teaching and demonstrating" to others how to commit arson at a lecture he gave August 1, 2003 in San Diego . According to the FBI press release, Coronado "taught and demonstrated the making and use of a destructive device, with the intent that the device be used to commit arson" at a public gathering in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Three animal rights activists in San Diego were jailed for contempt of court in 2005 for refusing to testify in the secret Grand Jury investigation.

Coronado is not charged with setting a fire 15 hours before his lecture that caused $50 million in damages and destroyed a large apartment complex under construction in the University Towne Center area of San Diego. Neighbors observed that ATF agents searched his home in the Dunbar Spring neighborhood for several hours.

Coronado’s arrest is the latest in the string of arrests across the country related to environmental and animal rights related actions.

"Why We Fight" Opens Today at Ken Cinema
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Eugene Jarecki's "Why We Fight," a powerful documentary on the imperialist agenda that has dominated U.S. foreign policy since the end of World War II, opens today (Friday, February 17) at the Ken Cinema in Kensington. Directed by Eugene Jarecki, the new film begins with former President Eisenhower's famous 1961 warning against "unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex" and shows how that "complex" has become an integral and almost ineradicable part of American society. "Why We Fight" represents a major political advance over Jarecki's previous film, "The Trials of Henry Kissinger" — whereas "Kissinger" was a liberal film, "Why We Fight" is a radical one.

John Francis/The Man Who Wouldn't Talk
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

John Francis, Ph.D. John Francis was a 24-year-old African-American hippie living in Marin County in 1971, when an accident between two oil tankers in San Francisco Bay changed his life. For the next 19 years he embarked on a worldwide odyssey, refusing to use ANY motorized transportation to take responsibility for the world's use of fossil fuels, and spending 17 years without speaking so he would be forced to listen to the world and the people around him. While maintaining his commitment to remain silent and not use motor vehicles, he nonetheless went to three universities and got a Ph.D. in environmental studies, which he later used as an environmental ambassador for the United Nations and an advisor to the U.S. Coast Guard on what to do about oil spills.

Grass-Roots Supervisor Candidate at Queer Dem
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,

Richard Barrera

The predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club heard from several past and future candidates for office at its January 26 meeting, but the most compelling presentation was given by Richard Barrera, running for San Diego County Supervisor on a platform aimed at ending the all-Republican Board's current culture and treating the County's health and welfare clients as human beings, not welfare cheats. San Diego City Councilmember Donna Frye and former Council candidate Lorena Gonzalez also spoke, and the club heard from former City Councilmember John Hartley on a "clean-elections" plan for public financing of campaigns that, if it works the way it has in Maine and Arizona, could help grass-roots candidates like Barrera get elected.

However, your loving pals at RadioActive San Diego will be covering this infernal event *live*, cutting through the lies and giving this simian the mocking of a lifetime. We will also take live calls from activists in the streets protesting the President's speech at 619-269-4693, and we may also cover the "rebuttal" by the "opposition party", the "Democrats", exposing them as the collaborators they are. We'll do this from 6pm-8pm (-ish)

Tune in. Turn on. Yell "fuck" a lot.  http://radioActiveradio.org

CDC Wants HIV victim's named
E.A. Barrera, Espresso Newspaper,

California is attempting to change the way HIV tests are reported. The Center for Disease Control has said they will only accept reports with the names of those testing positive for HIV listed. California currently uses an anonymous, code-based system that CDC says is flawed. If the state doesn't comply with CDC, it could lose millions of dollars in research grant funding.

Drown Out Bush's State of Union-Jan 31-4:30pm
posted by Pipard,

November 2nd Drive Out the Bush Regime Demo! BUSH STEP DOWN NOW RALLY! "Drive Out the Bush Regime"! State of the Union/State of Emergency Rally!! January 31st Rally at 4:30pm, Horton Plaza, Broadway Side. At 6pm as Bush speaks we will "Drown out the Bush Regime"! Bring lots of "Noise"! Sponsored by "WorldCantWait.org" info: (619)944-6786

The future is on the line and you are in the right place. The world urgently needs us to drive out the Bush regime. To this end, the world needs powerful protest by the American people - nation-wide on Tuesday, January 31st to drown out and denounce Bush’s State of the Union, declaring BUSH STEP DOWN because we are in a state of emergency, and then the following Saturday bringing this demand right to the seat of government, to the seat of power, in Washington DC: BUSH STEP DOWN AND TAKE YOUR PROGRAM WITH YOU.

If ever there was a time for people to pour into the streets, if ever there was a moment that demanded the uncompromised resolve of many thousands soon swelling to millions, if ever there was a moment ripe for regime change – we are living through it.
This is the responsibility that all of us have. It is not every day that people live through the types of events around which history pivots – events that are celebrated or grieved in the history books, legends and songs.

106.9FM Given Notice of $10,000 Fine
sd indymedia,

Free Speech 106.9FM, a pirate radio station in San Diego dedicated to broadcasting the voices of the San Diego community, was recently given a Notice of Apparently Liability for a $10,000 fine. Do you care about freedom of speech, pirate radio and public access to the airwaves? If so, now is the time to show your support. Post a comment here or send them an email at info A[t] 1069fm d0t org . If you want to donate to help, you can do so at their website,  http://1069fm.org .

The excessive fine represents a new intensified attack on free speech by the San Diego bureau of the FCC. It shows that they are willing to not only raid the homes and steal equipment from independent radio operators in San Diego, but they are willing to try to fine them for 10 times the cost of that equipment.

The FCC has said that there are no more frequencies available for radio licenses in San Diego. They are making a joke out of free speech in this city. Below is the full text of the notice as well as the contact info for members of city hall who may be interested in this attack on our city by federal agencies.
