PeaceFan,
The UN has banned it. It's reported to be in the arsenal of several nations, including the U.S. It's reported to be OPERATIONAL. What are we going to do about this weapon system? And did it play a role in creating Hurricane Katrina or in steering her along her murderous path?

A Call For Solidarity
David Agranoff,
David mailed me this statement asking for solidarity and asked that I post it on IndyMedia. There are only a few spelling errors/typos in David's letter because he had to write this in a bit of a hurry, but I will try to make them coherent while keeping as much of David's writing in it's original form as possible. Hopefully I don't add my own typos as I type this out.

Evacuation of 600 displaced halted by FEMA
repost by kim sky,
Yet ANOTHER obstruction by FEMA. Now they are halting relocation activies to San Diego !!!
600 evacuees don't want a place to go ^%%$#$@!! ... right ?
see wsws analysis of FEMA: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2005/sep2005/nola-s08.shtml
which puts together a very small list of obstructions by FEMA to relief efforts and anyalyses why. Just to mention ONE of the obstructions I came across when i posted to an MSNBC listserve: that LOWES was ready to send as many trucks as possbile to N.O., the first day of the disaster mind you, and was intructed by FEMA, "do not help, we don't need it".
MEANWHILE ... San Diego's Carmel Valley oil company executive David Perez
has another plane that holds a maximum of 60 passengers and is already waiting on the ground in Baton Rouge, La. And a second plane - a 737 that holds 172 passengers - is reserved for Saturday.
They plan to keep on going with evacuation of internally displaced persons until the FAA grounds them !!!

What kind of organization do we need?
Ben Seattle,
An organization capable of overthrowing the system of imperialist rule cannot be built on a foundation of sand. Only principled, transparent and long-term collaboration between serious activists can:
(1) organize a decisive break from the
confinement of liberal-imperialist politics,
(2) mobilize the masses in their millions and
(3) chart the couse forward to a world without
imperialist war or capitalist exploitation

San Diegans Report Back from Sheehan's Camp
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
Eight San Diegans who'd gone down to Crawford, Texas to support Cindy Sheehan in her demand that President Bush tell her to her face what noble cause her son died for in Iraq reported back on September 3. Following their presentations there was a discussion on what the peace movement should do next. Many of the speakers tied their remarks to Hurricane Katrina and said Iraq and Katrina both reflected the skewed priorities and awesome incompetence of the Bush administration.

The Cindy Spark: Mainstream America Stirs
Lynn Gonzalez,
Something amazing happened this month when Cindy Sheehan decided to confront Bush at his ranch in Crawford - whether it was the timing, the national mood, or the idea of a grieving mother being snubbed by the world's most powerful man, Cindy's camp-out has ignited those who oppose the war but have, until now, been silent.

What's wrong with the ISO?
infoshop.org,
First is the selling of the newspaper. So much emphasis was placed on this activity alone that it was a requirement listed on the membership card that one signs upon joining. The ISO considered themselves the only legitimate heirs of Trotsky and Lenin, and their newspaper, Socialist Worker, the new Iskra. This was the main vehicle through which we were going to spread "socialist ideas and revolutionary consciousness." Never mind that the paper reads like a grade-school synthesis of the bourgeois press with some stock socialist phrases tacked on to the end of each paragraph.
...
While there might be an appearance of democratic debate within the group at the branch level, ultimately, everything is pretty much decided by the center in Chicago.

Protest Bush in San Diego
sd indymedia,
Two events are planned for Bush's visit to San Diego:
Candlelight Vigil: President Bush, Our loved ones are dying in an unjust war. WHY?
Monday Evening, August 29, 2005 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
WHERE: On Coronado Island along Ocean Blvd. Near Flora Ave and Rh Dana Place. (Directions: Take Coronado Bridge to Orange Ave. Left on Orange Ave. to Rh Dana Place. Right on Rh Dana Place - becomes Ocean Blvd.. Vigil will be on Ocean Blvd. along the beach.) No parking will be permitted along Ocean Blvd. on Monday and Tuesday. Carpool if you can and park as near the Hotel Del as you can.
Demonstration at NAS NORTH ISLAND MAIN GATE on Alameda. Main Gate on Alameda, Coronado, Tuesday, August 30, 6 a.m. Gates will open at 6:00 a.m. for the 10,000 "invited guests" and the ceremony will take place at 8:00 a.m. True to form, this will be a harbor-side event so protestors can be kept far from this location. However, the road leading to North Island in Coronado would be a good protest location. Since parking in Coronado is scarce and parking laws are enforced, the North County Coalition for Peace and Justice will be using public transportation to get there. Directions from North County are below; San Diego people should check with the bus company to figure out best route for themselves to arrive at demonstration location: NAS NORTH ISLAND MAIN GATE on Alameda.

U.S. HOV Condemns Robertson's Call
US-HOV,
U.S. Hands Off Venezuela Campaign Condemns Robertson’s Call for the Assassination of Chavez
On Monday, August 22, Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former Republican presidential candidate, openly called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Before an estimated audience of one million, Robertson said the following on his “700 Club” television program:
“You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he [Chavez] thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,” Robertson said. “It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war... and I don’t think any oil shipments will stop.” He continued, “We have the ability to take him [Chavez] out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.”
Robertson went on to describe Chavez as a “terrific danger” to the United States and that it was “our duty” to stop Chavez from making Venezuela a “launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism.” He completely misrepresented the events of April 2002, and characterized Chavez as a “dictator”, despite his having overwhelmingly won multiple elections and a referendum, and who incidentally, has a far higher overall approval rating than George W. Bush.
These comments cannot be simply dismissed as having come from a “right wing nut”. Robertson is no “ordinary” or “private” citizen. He is closely linked with the GW Bush and the Republican Party, and is known to be close to Donald Rumsfeld in particular. We therefore demand the White House do more than “distance itself” from Robertson’s comments; an outright condemnation of this incitement to terrorism is in order. The hypocrisy of the Bush Administration is blatantly clear: they reject terrorism when it is in their interest to do so, yet turn a blind eye to terroristic threats made by their close friends.
On a positive note, this incident has raised interest and awareness of events in Venezuela. The U.S. Hands Off Venezuela Campaign urges you to join us in opposing all forms of intervention by the U.S. government and its agencies in Venezuela and to:
Educate and raise awareness about events in Venezuela in order to counter the bias of the mainstream media; build solidarity between American and Venezuelan trade unionists and working people in general.
Hands Off Venezuela!

Come protest Bush in San Diego!!!
Bruce,
They tried to keep it quiet but couldn't !!!!!!!
FLASH! Several members of the military have e-mailed a DOD internal release to Stacy Taylor on KLSD 1360 this morning that announces Bush's appearance next Tuesday, August 30 at a ceremony on North Island to mark the anniversay of Japan's surrender end of WWII. There are to be 10,000 "invited guests." Gates will open at 6:00 a.m. for "invited guests"; the ceremony will take place at 8:00 a.m. It will be a harborside event so that protestors would be kept far from this location. However, one individual suggested that many people have boats which would be one way to transport protestors and their signs closer to the ceremony. Also, they suggested that the road leading to North Island in Coronado could be a protest location. It is also recommended that protestors carpool as parking in Coronado is scarce and parking laws are enforced. Individual organizations could charter busses to drop them off and pick them back up after the protest.
PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS TO YOUR LISTS SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A SOLID TURNOUT TO "WELCOME" BUSH TO SAN DIEGO.
Also: Stop Bush in Los Angeles
