AJLPP-USA Mobilizes for June 24 LA March
AJLPP-USA,

AJLPP Mobilizes for June 24 LA Rally for Immigrant Rights The Alliance-Philippines(AJLPP)-USA and the Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) Council will mobilize upcoming June 24 Immigrant Rights March-Rally in Hollywood and Vine, Los Angeles.

The June 24th Hollywood march-rally will also demand a stop to the increase on exorbitant fees on citizenship and other documents for immigrants to be implemented by the DHS this July 30, 2007.

As the hopes for the proposed compromise bill on “Border Protection and Immigration Bill” also known as the “grand bargain” flickered, mass actions should be the order of the day.. The racist conservatives in the Lower House has just filed the “Border Protection First “ bill that elucidates their anti immigrant bias

JFAV Questions RP Embassy Data on Veterans
Justice for FIlipino American Veterans (JFAV),

Filipino World War II Veterans Demand Equity and Justice The Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) adamantly questions the number of Filipino World War II veterans are expected to benefit from the equity bills awaiting action in both houses of the United States Congress, as reported in major newspapers.
Newspapers quoted the report of Philippine Ambassador to the US Willy Gaa that only 18,155 of this number remain alive, according to Gaa.

"After the US Army left in 1948 with its list of Filipino WWII veterans, the Armed Forces of the Philippines continued to list late registrants,"

But for JFAV, a community-veterans alliance based in California; “ the crux of the problem is that the main stream newspapers report did not report the other half of what Gaa reported that PVAO reported that figures of 33, 571 living veterans in the Philippines as of May 2007. PVAO also reported 54,000 living Filipino veterans in the Philippines in 2002.”

Local Activists Challenge the Filipino Ambass
AJLPP-USA,

Human Rights Activists Challenge Philippine Ambassador to the U.S Willy Gaa The Honorable Willie Gaa, Philippine Ambassador to the US wrestled with claims of illegal arrest and detention of Congressman and labor leader Crispin Beltran and United Church of Christ Berlin Guerrero, the unabated political killings of unarmed social activists—at least 850 since Pres. Arroyo took power, and the involvement of the death squads affiliated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, during an open discussion at the Filipino Community Center in Seattle, Saturday, June 16th.

A member of the Ecumenical Fellowship for Justice and Peace, a church-based human rights group, presented the full page advertisement of the ‘statement of concern’ of the church and labor community, demanding among other things an immediate end to state sponsored political violence and the release of all political prisoners in the Philippines. When prompted by the comment that nothing seriously is being done by the Philippine government, to stop the attacks on legitimate opposition, Gaa said that at least four people have now been convicted and that the government promotes ‘witness protection program.’ The release of the Melo Commission, he said, is an indication’s of the government’s willingness to resolve the issue.

An ecumenical activist refuted such claim and alluded to the case of a witness to the UN Special Rapporteur on Extra-Judicial, Summary or Special Executions Philip Alston, who was later murdered by the military when Alston left for the US. In addition, he said that Justice Melo himself admitted that the killings were executed in a systematic way and that elements of the military ‘appear’ to be directly involved.

Putin’s Censored Press Conference
globalresearch.ca,

The transcript you weren’t supposed to see
by Mike Whitney
Global Research, June 11, 2007
“On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an hour and a half-long press conference which was attended by many members of the world media. The contents of that meeting---in which Putin answered all questions concerning nuclear proliferation, human rights, Kosovo, democracy and the present confrontation with the United States over missile defense in Europe---have been completely censored by the press. Apart from one brief excerpt which appeared in a Washington Post editorial, (and which was used to criticize Putin) the press conference has been scrubbed from the public record. It never happened.”

Member of Religious Delegation Reports on Visit to Iran
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

Joe Volk Last February 13 U.S. religious leaders traveled as a delegation to Iran and met with high-ranking Iranian officials, including current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former president Muhammad Khatami. Joe Volk, a member of this delegation, reported on the trip June 13 at the Church of the Brethren in a meeting sponsored by the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), of which Volk is national executive secretary. The meeting dealt with the prospects for avoiding a U.S. war with Iran and the Iranian government's willing to negotiate if the U.S. gives up its officially stated goal of "regime change" in Iran.

And it wasn't just me, the citizens who have supported and followed through are the real strength of all of this. The media has to deal with these global voices now because they are the 'shot heard round the world.'"

Candidate Alexander: Iraq War, Many Diversion
Stewart A. Alexander,

While Americans were being distracted by the tears and fears of Ms Paris Hilton, brave American soldiers were dying in Iraq. While Americans are watching television, the events in Iraq are dividing the Middle East. While Americans are watching television the Bush administration is assisting the multi-national oil giants in the attempt to privatize Iraq’s vast oil reserves, an effort that will destroy Iraq’s economy, will leave the people of Iraq in poverty and will weaken the existing government.

Arab-American Teach-in Explores U.S. Policy
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

L to R: Babak Rahimi, Michael Provence, Nasser Barghouti Any resemblance between what the mainstream U.S. media say about American involvement in the Middle East and reality is, if not purely coincidental, at least far-fetched, said three speakers at a teach-in on Middle East issues May 31 at the Four Points Sheraton on Aero Drive. Sponsored by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the Alternate Focus public-access cable-TV program on Middle Eastern issues, the San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice and the San Diego chapter of the National Lawyers’ Guild, the event showcased UCSD Iranian studies professor Babak Rahimi, UCSD history professor Michael Provence, and San Diego ADC president Nasser Barghouti, all of whom built their presentations around the contrast between what our media tell us about the Middle East and what’s really going on there.

More Smoke on the Horizon in the Middle East
Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya,

If war were to be waged against Iran and Syria, there would be casualties in the tens of thousands in Iraq. Iraq would become a graveyard for U.S. and British forces. AFP attack planes mobilized; 12 killed in NPA
AJLPP-USA,

The area command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has mobilized attack planes and gunship helicopters to extend air support to the combat battalions currently pursuing communist insurgents in Compostela Valley province and Davao Oriental. Clashes between government troops and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) left four soldiers and eight rebels dead, military officials yesterday said. Lt. Gen. Rodolfo Obaniana, AFP’s Eastern Mindanao Command area chief, ordered Maj. Gen. Ernesto Boac, 10th Infantry Division (ID) commander, to use all available combat personnel and military bulldozers to “pin down” the communist rebels.

Memorial for UCSD Martyr - Vietnam War Protester
DeeDee,

bricks from site of immolation TONIGHT, Thursday June 7 from 8pm – 2am by Revelle Fountain, we are having a memorial service for George Winne Jr. He burned himself on Revelle plaza in 1970 in protest of the Vietname war. This event was significant in shaping the future design of this campus to control mass congregations. It will be a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the martyr and a reflection upon the ridiculous war we are having today. Please help us spread the word and hope to see you tonight.

George Winne Jr. (1947 – May 11, 1970) is remembered as a protester of the Vietnam War who set himself on fire in a deliberate act of self-immolation in Revelle Plaza on the campus of the University of California, San Diego on May 10, 1970 to protest the United States involvement in the war. The 23 year old student, a former member of a ROTC unit, had no previous affiliation with any organized protests. Winne had recently completed his studies towards a degree in History in March, and would have graduated in June.
He died ten hours later, asking his mother to write a letter to President Nixon. His last words were "I believe in God and the hereafter and I will see you there."
A small memorial to the student is located in a grove of trees, east of the campus library. After being buried, he was given the ensign "Most Beloved"

NDFP verifies Prof Sison Is Peace Consultant
AJLPP-USA,

The National Council of the National Democrat Front of the Philippines hereby verifies that Prof. Jose Maria Sison is the NDFP chief political consultant and belies the claim of the Manila government that he is chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and head of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Prof. Sison himself has consistently declared that the leadership of the CPP and the command of the NPA are in the Philippines and not in The Netherlands or anywhere else thousands of miles away from the Philippines. His lawyer Jan Fermon has convincingly demonstrated that he cannot be the CPP chairman and NPA head because he has been separated from the CPP and NPA since his arrest in 1977 by the Marcos fascist regime (more than 29 years ago) as well as since his departure from the Philippines in 1986 (more than 20 years ago).
