U.S. activists join protest in Tijuana
snarla,
Yesterday, three American activists crossed the border to join with Tijuana activists protesting the WTO, after marching through San Ysidro to the border fence. By the time we met up with the protesters on the other side the numbers had dwindled some, but the energy had not. The crowd, mostly made up of militant youth supporters of the Zapatistas, was in a stand off with the United Stated Federal Protective Services (a new Homeland Security police force?)

SDIMC,
::online radio:: Friday 6:00pm - Protest at Federal Building - Many cops join protesters in saying No to the WTO. 8:30pm - Teach-ins and dinner at City College (downtown SD) Teach-in Report
Saturday
Noon - First updates and photos 12:40PMThe march is on! At least twenty mounted police have been brought out. Massive police presence. Estimates are from 400-1000. many homemade banners, signs, puppets.
1:00PM The Mexico to US border crossing has been closed down. On arriving at the borders speeches were made, and a few US activists are crossing into Mexico. Mexican law enforcement is very low key. US forces described as over the top. Revised crowd estimate is 400-600. The crowd of activists is described as being "mellow" for being kept in a police cordon. 1:30PM Activists are pulling back from the border, returning to Larsen Field. Our reporters observed over 30 Mexican Police in riot gear. Lots of police videotaping the protesters. A red semi has been parked on Interstate 5 preventing motorists from seeing the protest. The !Spy Blimp - STI has been following the protesters all day. At least six undercover cops have been in the crowd. A "Peacekeeper" Armored Personell Carrier was parked in front of McDonald's during the protest, bringing a new level of militarization to political policing. Overall, reports are that police kept their distance.
7:30pm - The last of the protest organizers are leaving Larsen Field. A Spokescouncil Meeting will begin at 8pm at the San Diego Foundation in North Park (3758 30th St / San Diego, CA 92104 - get a map)

No WTO! Open letter from a San Diego Activist
open,
The World Trade Organization is meeting in Cancun this week. In a gross violation of every democratic principles, those who pretend to run the world are meeting behind close doors in the Cancun's Convention Center, without the participation of civil society, and protected by the Mexican policy and military in an overwhelming display of force. There they pretend to decide everyone's future without our participation or our vote. There have already been violent protests including a death yesterday.

Protests Against the WTO Gain Steam!
sdimc,
Once upon a time in a land called Seattle there was a great and terrible protest. It was a protest where tree-huggers, dockworkers, social workers, and punk rockers came together to fight for freedom from global capitalism. This was the protest that rocked the world and ushered in an era of global resistance. (WTO Background)
The WTO has run from the people and conducted their meetings in isolation. They have now returned to land and the people are ready to greet them with raised fists. Starting today there is a convergence in San Diego and Tijuana. We stand in solidarity with the people in Cancun. Join the Movement - Create Noise, Media, and Song - Celebrate the Globalization of the Human Spirit!- Resist the Machine! The WTO Kills - Korean farmer commits suicide during the protests against the WTO

Report on Deconstructing Dinner Teach-In
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine,
A group of activists, mostly from Canada, organized as "Deconstructing Dinner" and staged a bike ride all the way from Canada to Cancun, Mexico to protest the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its proposed Agreement on Agriculture, which they say will speed up the current trend towards industrial farming, destruction of family farms and worldwide spread of genetically modified food. They stopped in San Diego August 30 and gave a presentation.
