Support Good Paying Jobs at SD School District

Every time work is de-valued, every instance when a worker is forced to accept a job that pays below a decent standard of living, when employees are compelled to race to the bottom; then we, our jobs, our future, our heritage to the next generation of workers is assaulted.

Dear Greens and Progressive San Diegans…..

On May 26th we have the opportunity to tell the San Diego School Board that we want good jobs with decent benefits to come from the recently passed School Bond. The Board will be looking at creating upwards of 10,000 new jobs from the voter approved funds and whether those are low-paying, no health care, exploitative, dead-end labor or real careers for fellow San Diegans depends on how much we can pressure Board Members.

Corporate gofers and administrative cronies within the policy and procurement departments of the San Diego School District will be petitioning the Board for low-cost, cruel labor costs so the bloated school supply industry, particularly the local San Diego Construction and Building Cartels, like their bigger heifers, the national defense industry, can continue to thieve the public.

The other option, drawn up by the San Diego Center on Policy Initiatives, dubbed the Construction Career Project Stabilization Agreement, would mandate quality jobs with portable healthcare. Under this agreement all project workers will have access to healthcare. Without such an agreement, less than 50% of workers will have employer provided healthcare. Also, under the CPI proposal; there would be a mandated minimum percentage of work and apprenticeships going to workers from high poverty areas in San Diego. Guarantees that small businesses and minority owned firms would be given a percentage of the contracts round out the plan.

Please consider supporting quality jobs with healthcare for your neighbors, for your own children’s future. Every time work is de-valued, every instance when a worker is forced to accept a job that pays below a decent standard of living, when employees are compelled to race to the bottom; then we, our jobs, our future, our heritage to the next generation of workers is assaulted.

We Need You at the School Board May 26 7pm! The Board meets at Eugene Brucker Auditorium 4100 Normal Street (you will see the building where El Cajon meets Park Blvd. There will be many people present from different groups, so please meet us outside the building on the Park Blvd side). Please RSVP at quynh [at] onlinecpi.org

Thanks.
