La Revolución Mexicano: ¿Tierra y Libertad?
Jorge Garcia and Jeff Graves,

Ricardo Flores Magón (left) and his brother Enrique Looking at the Mexican Revolution from a distance, we can see that the overt theme was set in the tone of the poor versus the rich; those who drank pulque and had a sense of community and those who sipped fine wine at the expense of the working-class, with an affinity for privileged isolationism.

Ricardo Flores Magón may have been right all along when he said that:
“The dreamer is the designer of tomorrow. The practical man, the sensible, cold head, can laugh at the dreamer; they do not know that he, the dreamer, is the true dynamic force that pushes the world forward. Suppress the dreamer, and the world will deteriorate toward barbarism. Despised, impoverished, the dreamer opens the way for his race, sowing sowing sowing the seeds which will be harvested, not by him, but by the practical men, the sensible cold heads of tomorrow, who will laugh at the sight of another dreamer seeding, seeding, seeding.”

Immigration Activists Clash at Queer Democratic Club
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger’s Newsmagazine,

Mary Moreno Richardson Immigration-rights attorney Lilia Velasquez and Mary Moreno Richardson, reverend canon of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, were brought in to speak at the predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club May 24. While they largely agreed on the need to protect immigrants' rights against abusive Border Patrol enforcement and private Minuteman vigilantism, they disagreed dramatically on the merits of the current "compromise" immigration bill before the U.S. Senate. Richardson hailed the bill as a start for a long-needed discussion on the issue, while Velasquez denounced it as repressive and said that no bill at all would be better for immigrants than the one being proposed now.

This annual event showcases the best student films made in the San Diego/Tijuana region. Many of this year's films dealt with cross-border issues, giving voice to immigrant Elijio Gonzalez, pioneering Chicano artist Victor Ochoa and church activists who build homes for people in Tijuana. Other films included a documentary on upscale dog-grooming establishments and an hilarious anti-racist satire called "The Crayola Monologues."

Plantón de Protesta
vAPPOroaxaca,

La Otra Campaña Tijuana: Revolution on Our Doorstep
rocky neptun,

from http://enlacezapatista.ezln.org.mx Marcos came to Tijuana, last Wednesday and Thursday, October 18th and 19th, within the shadow of our wall of shame, to bring Zapatismo to Mexico’s fourth largest city through the “La Otra Campaña” tour. A series of forums held over the last year in 31 Mexican states which says that there is a better way to do politics than stolen elections, bribed congress persons, corrupt, violent governors, and corporate thievery. Politics from the bottom up, not top down; where all the stakeholders in civil society; workers, peasants, students, women, gays, indigenous groups have the power to control the economic, social and political processes that influence their lives.

Here, amid the ruins of the former world of the Tijuana rich, young people commit themselves to authentic lives and autonomous communities free of greed. They do not fear the loss of material comforts or jail. A new culture of resistance begins to take shape as Mexico rediscovers its continuing revolution. There is, indeed, hope.

FROM SDIMC: Further stories, photos, audio and video on the EZLN's Sixth Commission visit to Tijuana are forthcoming...
