Partnership Community Discussion - June 23, 2011 - Saving Sacred Sites

Alfredo Figueroa of La Cuna De Atzlan, sacred sites protection circle; Frank Brown, Viejas Cultural Monitor; and, Dale Phillips, Cocopah Elder and defender of Cocopah Sacred sites, took part in a panel discussion to voice concerns and spread awareness of "green energy" projects which threaten thousands of cultural and sacred sites in eastern California and AZ. deserts. Mr. Frank Brown, cultural site monitor for SDG&E Powerlinks project at Sunrise and Ocotillo Sacred Sites warned that the new "Green Energy" will erase aboriginal traditional and cultural sacred sites. Meetings with other tribes were to take place to further discuss and plan future action. Mr. Dale Phillips discussed the Cocopah success in protecting sacred sites and their stance to maintain and protect sites for future generations. Mr. Alfredo Figueroa of the Chemehuevi People and "Wisdome Keeper" from La Cuna De Aztlan Sacred Sites Protection Circle in Blythe,Ca., travels and presents cultural education of the 'Creation Story" and the significance of the Giant Intaglios. It is his hope that native communities and peoples from every walk of life and every direction make the journey to publicly openly protest the desecration and violation, called the "Foot Race" to be the biggest conglomerate of the solar power world.
