PUBLISHING VIDEO STORIES on San Diego Indymedia
1 - Go to http://sandiego.indymedia.org
2 - At the top of the (red) column on the right, click on Publish>>
(here is the direct link: http://www.indybay.org/publish.php?page_id=61 )
3 - You will be taken to a form that actually resides on the computer of another indymedia website in the San Francisco Bay area, Indybay (our webserver is temporarily down). Note that Indybay also has instructions on publishing - see the link at the top of the page ( http://www.indybay.org/publish.php?page_id=61 )
4 - Fill in the required boxes - Title, Author (feel free to use an alias), Summary of your article.
5 - Optionally add your E-mail address (click the box if you want it displayed), Web address and Article Text.
6 - If you would like to preview your story before publishing it, hit the Preview button at the bottom of the page.
7 - After making any corrections, you can now upload video files. To start this process, select the number of files you want to upload, for example if you have three video clips, then select 3 from the dropdown menu..
8 - Click on Enter
9 - Under upload attachments, click on browse buttons individually to select the video files you want to upload. If you have more than one file, you will be required to enter a title for each file after the first and you can optionally enter text that goes with that file. The size of a single file cannot exceed 64 megabytes and the total size of all the video clips you are uploading cannot exceed 128 megabytes. (note that uploading 64 mbytes might take 15-30min). If you have a fantastic video that exceeds 64 megabytes, you might consider breaking it up into two files. You can use all the modern standard video types, including quicktime and flash (.mov, .mp4, .mpg, .flv, .torrent, .wmv). The best way to see if the format you are using will work is to try it - if it doesn't work and you don't know how to convert it, write us an e-mail and we will try to help. As a general guide, we find that 15 minute videos saved at size 480x320 with a stream rate limit of 500 kilobytes per second are about 60 megabytes. In iMovie, you can set this rate under Sharing->Expert Settings->Options->Settings.
10 -After you have browsed for all the files to upload, click on Publish at the bottom of the page.
11. A page will either appear congratulating you for publishing your story or it will list some errors you need to fix. When congratulations are in order, the page will list a URL where you story has been published. It will look something like this:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/10/30/18457279.php
You might want to copy and save that for future reference.
------If you have uploaded video and you want to embed it in a web page - when viewing your post, a box with the code to embed the video in any (html-based) web page appears below the video. copy it and past it in to the html source code for the web page where you want it to appear, and it will.------
